According to a team source, Jose Iglesias will be demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket in order to make room on the 25-man major league roster for pitcher Aaron Cook.
Iglesias, who was promoted to the Red Sox Tuesday, did not appear in any of the three games he was active for. With Pawtucket, the shortstop hit .200 with a .274 on-base percentage in 23 games. He also struck out 16 times, drew eight walks and stole four bases.
The Red Sox had 48 hours from early Wednesday morning to promote Cook to the major league roster per the terms of the pitcher's opt-out clause in his contract. In five appearances with the PawSox, the 33-year-old went 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA, limiting opponents to a .217 batting average over 33 1/3 innings. The team still needs to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Cook before he is added to the big league roster.
