The Celtics didn't make any final decisions on their roster after their final preseason game on Wednesday and coach Doc Rivers suggested they may keep at least one spot open to add a veteran free agent. With 13 players under contract, the Celtics can add two more players to reach the maximum of fifteen.
"There’s guys still out there unsigned and we may want to sign one of them," Rivers said. "We’re looking around. There’s so many things that can happen and we want to make sure if it happens that we’re able to do it quick. We may keep 15 for a couple more days but after that we’ll probably go to 14 [players]."
One player who has clearly separated himself from the other training camp invitees is center Greg Stiemsma who scored seven points to go with five rebounds in 18 minutes of action. Stiemsma was the only one of the nonguaranteed players who saw action with the starters in Wednesday's game against the Raptors.
"He played great," Rivers said. "It was nice because we played him with some of the starters, which we were trying to do, and you know he blocked shots, he could run the floor, he can make the shot from the elbow. That was great when he just jacked it, that was what we wanted him to do. So it was a good showing by him."
