The Patriots issued a statement regarding the situation surrounding wide receiver Julian Edelman Tuesday afternoon, saying they were "aware of the reports" involving Edelman, but would "defer any comment to his representatives at this time."
According to reports, officers were called to a Back Bay nightclub around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to investigate reports of a possible assault. Edelman was arrested on a single count of indecent assault and battery, according to Boston police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll. Edelman was taken into custody but posted bail and was released by police.
Edelman was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Tuesday afternoon, entering a plea of not guilty. Edelman was released on personal recognizance and ordered to stay away from the woman he allegedly assaulted.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked about Edelman on his Tuesday afternoon conference call.
"I don't think we have enough information to comment on that right now," he said.
