Red Sox starting pitcher John Lackey interrupted his postgame media session at Yankee Stadium late Sunday night to express his disappointment that a member of the press sent him a text message before the game asking about "personal stuff." Shortly after the interview, the celebrity gossip website TMZ published a report indicating that Lackey filed for divorce last month.
“Let me tell you the truth. Thirty minutes before the game, I got a text message on my cellphone from one of you … somebody in the media, talking about personal stuff,” Lackey said after pitching six-plus innings in the Sox' 7-4, 14-inning victory that kept them a game up in the wild card race. “And I shouldn’t even be standing up here having to deal with it. I’m sitting here listening to music. I don’t know who got my phone number, but that’s over the line.”
According to the TMZ report, Lackey filed for divorce in Texas on Aug. 30 from his wife of less than three years, Krista, who has been battling breast cancer. The report refers to court documents Lackey filed that read: "The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities."
