In order to make room for first baseman / outfielder Jeff Bailey on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox placed pitcher Devern Hansack on unconditional release waivers. Hansack, who permitted no hits in a five-inning complete game on the final day of the 2006 season (technically not a "no-hitter," as defined by Major League Baseball, because it was not a nine-inning contest), recently dislocated his shoulder on April 13 while pitching for Triple-A Pawtucket.
The Sox are likely to re-sign Hansack to a minor-league deal when he clears waivers. For details, visit the Full Count [1] blog.
