Austin Ainge, son of team president Danny Ainge, has left the Maine Red Claws where he was head coach for the past two seasons to rejoin the Celtics as director of player personnel.
"I am sorry to see Austin go but happy for him in his new position with the Celtics," Red Claws president and general manager Jon Jennings said via press release. "All of us with the Red Claws enjoyed working with Austin. No one worked harder and was more committed to making our players better. He will be missed. We wish Austin, Crystal and his boys the best going forward."
Austin Ainge coached the Red Claws, which is the Celtics' D-League affiliate, for the first two years of their existence. In 2009-10, they tied the record for most wins by an D-League expansion team. He also worked as a scout for the Celtics.
