The Blizzard of ’78 was a year away, and John Havlicek was still playing basketball for the Celtics when John Dennis embarked on the Boston portion of his broadcasting career.

John graduated magne cum laude from Kent State University in 1974 after earning a degree in telecommunications and journalism. As a finalist that year in ABC’s nationwide search for a college-aged sideline announcer for NCAA football, Dennis became the youngest Sports Director in the history of NBC affiliates at WDAF in Kansas City at age 22. He spent 3 years in KC before the bright lights of Boston called.

During his 3 decades at Channel 7 (1977-1997), Dennis wore a variety of name tags including weekend sports anchor, feature reporter, and Sports Director. In his 21 years at WNAC-WHDH, John worked for 3 different ownership groups and 17 different news directors. He won 8 Emmy awards for broadcast excellence.

Dennis has covered a wide variety of events spanning the globe, including the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer Norway, Americas Cup Yacht Racing in Newport, World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Championships, U.S. Open Golf, and all of Marvelous Marvin Hagler’s middleweight title fights.

In October of 1997, John resigned from Channel 7 to co-host the Dennis & Callahan Show with Gerry Callahan on Sports Radio 850, WEEI. The Dennis & Callahan Show originally aired in the 10 to Noon timeslot. In September of 1999 the Dennis & Callahan Show, after two successful years on WEEI, was promoted to air during morning drive from 6 AM–10 AM. Dennis devotes afternoons to his business venture called MediaWise. MediaWise is a consulting firm that assists high-profile sports figures to deal with the glare of the media and maximizing their endorsement opportunities. John also hosts Golf Destinations on NESN

John is an avid golfer and lives on the South Shore with his wife Juliana and two daughters Emilee and Lara. Besides golf John enjoys driving, chipping and putting.
