11th annual WEEI / NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon set for August 21 and 22

BOSTON (August 16, 2012) – WEEI Sports Radio 93.7 FM/850 AM and New England Sports Network (NESN) are proud to announce that the 11th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon will take place at Fenway Park on Tuesday, Aug. 21, and Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 6 a.m. to midnight.  The emotional two-day event has become one of the Jimmy Fund’s biggest annual fundraisers. In 2011, more than $3.3 million was raised, bringing the ten-year total to nearly $28 million.

Contributions are already well underway, thanks to the 5th Annual “Tame the Tigers” golf tournament, which was held on May 14 at The International in Bolton, Mass. The event raised more than $100,000 this year, and more than $350,000 during the past five years.
This year’s 36-hour WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon will feature touching, compelling stories from Dana-Farber patients, doctors and nurses, as well as guest commentary from sports and entertainment celebrities, including Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino and numerous Red Sox players.

“It still amazes me how much progress has been made in cancer research and patient care in the 11 years since we started this event,” said Jason Wolfe, VP of Programming and Operations for Entercom Boston. “We are all humbled by the incredible generosity and support of WEEI’s listeners, NESN’s viewers and sports fans from around the country who reach into their pockets every year to help us win this fight against cancer,” he added.

“The most important two days on NESN’s broadcast calendar are when we team up with WEEI and the Red Sox to help the Jimmy Fund make a real difference in the lives of those afflicted with cancer,” said Sean McGrail, NESN’s President and CEO. “Every year we are amazed by the incredible work being done by Dana-Farber’s team of doctors and care givers, which further motivates us to redouble our efforts to help rally Red Sox fans to step up and support the Jimmy Fund.”

To help strike out cancer during the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon, call 877-738-1234 toll free. For more information, to purchase tickets, or to contribute online, go to www.jimmyfundradiotelethon.org.
