For the first time in the 2017 NBA Playoffs, the Cavaliers seemed ripe for the taking. The Cavaliers came to Boston having not played in a game in 10 days. On the other bench, the Celtics, though fatigued, were riding the emotional high of their Game 7 victory over the Wizards on Monday night. The East-best Celtics did not have to battle the fatigue of playing on short rest and traveling, either, and were instead back at the Garden that they've admitted has given them a definite emotional lift throughout the playoffs. So, if the Celtics were going to have anything even resembling something close to a chance in this third-round series with the Cavaliers, it was going to come from their performance in the opening game. But after a wire-to-wire domination from the reigning champs, finishing as a 117-104 beatdown from the Cavaliers in Game 1, the Cavaliers have proved that they are just as good as their 8-0 playoff record advertised, and that the Celtics are cooked. And it started early. The

The Bruins patted themselves on the back following their first-round loss to the Senators. Rightfully so, I might add. I was there for an extra pat or two, too, I have to admit. It was obvious that the Bruins battled through some serious injuries -- they ended the series without three members of their top four defense corps and without second line center David Krejci -- and still came within two wins of advancing to the next round. And even when they lost, it wasn’t as if they were blown out by the Senators, as each defeat finished as a one-goal final, and three of their defeats required overtime. Everybody in town called the season a success. Again -- and seemingly -- rightfully so. "I think we had a successful season because of what evolved, the changing of the guard in our coaching ranks and I think our leadership showed itself very well," Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs said of the B’s season at his year-end press conference. "I think hope springs eternal. I think

It took 27 regular season games and a six-game playoff series, but finally, the ‘interim’ tag has been dropped from Bruce Cassidy’s title and he is now officially the 28th coach in the franchise’s history. It seemed like the obvious move given the team’s success under Cassidy versus their general, did-not-qualify despondency regularly displayed by the club (and even by their best players) in Claude Julien’s 10th season behind the bench. And really, my only question is: Why did this take so long? In his first NHL head coaching gig since 2003, when he was unceremoniously ousted by a Capitals group that straight-up hated him by the end of it (and he was there for just two seasons), Cassidy essentially forced the B’s to make him full-time. First, he was not the disaster that he very well could have been given the state of the roster, which just days before Julien's axing said that they still believed in their coach, and Cassidy's own aforementioned and

The Bruins almost overcame a thin lineup that got worse when David Krejci was put back on the shelf for the second time in their first-round series against the Senators. The Bruins almost overcame a litany of straight-up dreadful penalties, including six puck over the glass penalties. They even almost overcame a season’s worth of bad calls and unfortunate bounces while they were at it. But at the end of the day, with the Bruins eliminated in Game 6 at TD Garden on Sunday, what the Bruins failed to overcome was the loss of three-quarters of their top four defensemen. Although the Bruins waited, and got some of them back on the ice at various points over the course of their near two-week postseason war with the Senators, this was a six-game series loss that came without a single playoff game from the club’s No. 2 defenseman Brandon Carlo, and without power-play quarterback Torey Krug. Adam McQuaid, meanwhile, was last seen in the first period of Game 2. The Bruins also lost Colin
