FOXBORO — After Malcolm Butler stayed with the Patriots following a difficult offseason for the cornerback, some suggested there could potentially be a long-term deal with the team coming down the road. But after Butler spoke to the media for the first time since the Super Bowl, don’t hold your breath on a potential new contract. This will be Butler’s final season as a member of the Patriots. The 27-year-old didn’t have much to say on Thursday following the first OTA session open to the media, but it was the few words he did say and how he said them that told the story. Butler was asked several times in different ways if he wanted to be a Patriot long-term, and each time he dodged the question. (He will be an unrestricted free agent following the season.) “Can’t predict the future,” Butler said when asked if he wants to be a Patriot long-term. “Whatever happens, happens.” What about if he’s thought about his next contract and if

On Monday, it was announced former Patriots cornerback Raymond Clayborn was elected as the 26th member of the Patriots Hall of Fame. Clayborn edged Richard Seymour and Mike Vrabel. Every former Patriots player or head coach who has been retired for at least four years is eligible. The process begins with a committee meeting and nomination of three players based off a first, second and third place vote. These three players then face off in a fan vote on over roughly a month span and then a winner is determined. Each year around this time one player is elected and then honored over the summer with a ceremony outside the Hall at Patriot Place. With the recent run of success the team has had, the voting in a few years will get extremely difficult as there will be a number of worthy candidates who become eligible all around the same time. Here are a few recent and current Patriots players who will deserve consideration when the time comes. Tom Brady/Bill Belichick — Not even

When Tom Brady actually retires is anyone’s guess. It could be two seasons from now when he’s 42. It could be five seasons from now when he’s 45. Heck, it could even be 10 years from now when he’s 50. No one knows the real answer, but the person who may have the best answer to this isn’t involved in football at all. It’s Brady’s wife Gisele Bundchen. “[Gisele] makes decisions for our family that I've got to deal with,” Brady told ESPN’s Ian O’Connor in an interview published earlier this week. “Hopefully she never says, 'Look, this has to be it.' ... My wife and my kids, it's a big investment of their time and energy, too." Brady has maintained he wants to play into his mid-40s and according to Brady, Gisele is on board. "She wants me to do that, too," Brady said. "She also wants me to take good care of myself and still have my energy. My kids have grown up faster than I thought." Two days after

Following the 2013 season, the Patriots had just lost to the Broncos in the AFC championship game and Tom Brady would be 37 years old before the next season and hadn’t won a Super Bowl in nine years. That 2013 season wasn’t Brady’s best, as he threw 25 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. The 25 touchdown passes were his fewest since 2006 and there were small signs of the quarterback slipping. Brady ending his career with only three titles wasn’t totally inconceivable and with his play on the field as well as his age, Bill Belichick started thinking about the future by drafting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 draft. “We know what Tom's age and contract situation is,” Belichick said the night the Patriots took Garoppolo. For the first time in Brady’s career in New England, the organization indicated it didn’t fully believe in him for the distant future and wanted to make sure there was Plan B. Looking back at what
