Josh Bordner looked as if he was going through confession more so than conducting a press conference at Alumni Stadium.

Here's a five-point plan for how the Jets could possibly, maybe, somehow, perhaps beat the Patriots in Foxboro Thursday night (even though they won't).

The phrase "Pyrrhic victory" leapt to mind. Sure, a 37-22 win for the Patriots over the Bills was worthy of celebration Sunday. After all, some in Buffalo were calling this the biggest Bills game in 16 years. So to dance out of Orchard Park with a 'W' after enduring that electrified atmosphere seemed worthy of applause.

We can debate (and boy, have we ever) how good Logan Mankins may be going forward.

The NFL finishes its first quarter Monday night with the Patriots-Chiefs game in Kansas City. And a common complaint from New England has been: "We don't know who the Patriots are so far!"

When it comes to the 2015 Boston Red Sox, the more clarity we get, the more confusion we get.

The address of the Watergate Hotel is listed as 2650 Virginia Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. But it may actually be 345 Park Avenue in New York City.

The tweet must have come after Knowshon Moreno gave the Dolphins a 30-20 lead over the Patriots in the fourth quarter: @TimBenzWEEI You're such a homer Benz. How could you think these scrubs can win 11 games.

I admit that it's been more than 20 years since I called New England home. But now that I'm back, one thing that I have to ask is: What did college sports do to piss off everyone around here so much?

Patriots fans don't have to go far in the NFL history books to find a point of comparison when it comes to the departure of Logan Mankins via a trade to the Buccaneers last week.

There have been 15 Super Bowls played since the dawn of the new millennium. The New England Patriots have been in five of them. They've won three of them. That's a pretty god success rate, wouldn't you say? In fact, no NFL fan base should feel more secure in its own skin than New England's.

Can something really be called a "conspiracy theory" if everyone is talking openly about it? For instance, the notion that the Red Sox traded Jon Lester with the full intent of signing him back in the offseason after acquiring pieces from the team that is renting his services in the short term. Folks, that's not a conspiracy theory anymore. That's just a theory.

I had hoped that the dialogue surrounding suspended Baltimore running back Ray Rice would result in him becoming a poster boy for efforts to curb domestic violence. Instead, he's turning into a poster boy for marijuana legalization.

When Herman Melville wrote "Moby-Dick," the Pequod launched from Nantucket with just 30 people on board. Now it feels like every sports fan in Boston is setting sail on the same boat. And the crew isn't hunting one white whale, it's hunting three.

So far, I like new NBA commissioner Adam Silver a great deal. I am one of the many who thinks he handled the Donald Sterling situation perfectly. I also thought his draft night treatment of ailing Baylor prospect Isaiah Austin was extremely classy. And he did something really smart this week when he floated up a test balloon about the NBA possibly having an annual midseason tournament.

It's pretty clear who the biggest winner was in the LeBron James sweepstakes. It's singer Skylar Grey.

A lot of people like to debate the legacy of LeBron James ... even though there's about another decade to go before it is finalized. In my opinion there is no debate. After two NBA championships, five trips to the finals, four league MVPs and two Olympic gold medals, James' legacy is set with me.

You've got a closer with an ERA of 1.30. He's blown just one save in 19 tries. Over the last two years (including the postseason) he's converted 46 of 50 save chances and has allowed a grand total of 17 runs. All this while chalking up a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 169-15 over that time frame. So obviously, this guy has to go!

It sounds funny, doesn't it? Only $70 million. As in: The Red Sox offered Jon Lester only $70 million over four years.
