The only significant news from the Houston game was the Wes Welker injury. Other than that, what did we learn from this game?

FINALLY! This was the team we were expecting with the return of Tom Brady. Check that. This is what we were expecting plus some excellent defense.

Thank goodness the AFC East sucks. The Patriots, as bland as they are playing, will win the division. So why does watching the Patriots play feel like winning a dollar on a dollar scratch ticket? Simple: Because it is better than losing. There is little excitement about the Patriots right now, after Sunday's 17-10 win over the Bills. Only a pompom-waving New England fan can look at this team and be optimistic about the playoffs.

An average NFL quarterback could have won this game for the Carolina Panthers. The combination of New England's limited pass rush and a below-average secondary would have any offensive coordinator licking his chops. Fortunately for the Patriots, Matt Moore was throwing ducks all over the field. And the Panthers were undisciplined and incapable of capitalizing on numerous Patriots mistakes. OFFENSE: C-

We were not hyping this game on The Big Show when we were saying how important it was for the Patriots to beat Miami.

There are a number of new faces playing for the Patriots this year, especially on defense. At about the halfway point in the season it is interesting to see how some of the young guys or new guys have worked out.

This was not the Patriots vs. the Titans. This was the Harlem Globetrotters vs. the Washington Generals. I would not be surprised if the Patriots coaches decided to not even show this game tape to the players. Where is the upside? There were very few learning moments in this game. That being said, there were some interesting things about this game besides the offensive numbers.

Remember the “Bizarro” episode of "Seinfeld"? That was this past weekend. The opposite of everything normal in the Boston sports world was happening everywhere.

The Patriots are a work in progress. This past Sunday was a big step. Baltimore came into Gillette highly ranked on both sides of the ball and New England more than answered the bell. This was easily the Patriots’ best all-around effort yet.   OFFENSE: A-

OK, everyone who was assuming the worst for this Patriots defense, raise your hand. Unless you are one of the two Patriot Pom-Poms I work with on The Big Show, you were just like me. You thought the defense would be helped out mostly by a prolific, high-scoring offense. When Seymour was traded we all said, “Tom Terrific will just have to score more points.” When Jerod Mayo went down we figured there would still be enough Brady-to-Moss hook-ups to cover the loss.

The loss to the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets was bad, but it was compounded by the week-long yapping of the Jets players and coach. Losing sucks. Losing to the Jets sucks more. Losing to a Jets team that yaps sucks the most. But there were plenty of legit football reasons why the Patriots lost. OFFENSE: D-

The worst thing about getting graded in the NFL for a player was not the report cards from the various media outlets. The worst thing was that each player would get graded from the coaches.

Dale isn't buying the Tortorella hype and thinks he's a little overrated. DJ thinks he's a good coach, but isn't a fan of anti-media stance. The guys also talk about Jagr and how he has not lived up to the hype. They weren't expecting him to light it up or be the savior, but DJ says he wasn't prepared for just how slow the aging veteran is. Another big topic for B's fans this season is the play of Tyler Seguin and why he has yet to become the superstar everyone anticipates he will be. This leads to Claude Julien's style and if he does actually have something against the younger players. That Iginla trade shows its ugly head again as well.
