Here comes Oakland. Here comes a reality check. The Red Sox are about to face the best team in the American League for four games. The A's are good. Good at pitching. Good at hitting. Good at winning.

I like baseball a lot. At 8 p.m. Monday, I liked soccer better. This wasn't intended. When I walked into the Fenway Park press box just before 6 p.m. (or 7 p.m., Natal, Brazil, time) my focus was solely on looking up Tony Gwynn's 1994 batting average and learning what was on the media dining room menu.

So, why did Jon Lester make that comment? What exactly does "hometown discount" mean?

BALTIMORE -- The question to Dustin Pedroia was simple. "Do you think you guys can win the World Series?"

It's time. The Red Sox should make their move on Stephen Drew (whatever that move might be). It might not work out, but it will be worth a try. At this point, they need to try something.

Joe Maddon put it best. "It's kind of getting freaky," said the Tampa Bay manager. It is bizarre. No question about it.

Throughout Felix Doubront's young career he has has consistently uncovered solutions to his problems via specific alterations in between starts. There have been slight mechanical adjustments, mixing up the day he throws his bullpen sessions in between starts and even a conscious effort to not pay any attention to the radar gun readings.

The words of A.J. Pierzynski to Red Sox radio broadcasters Joe Castiglione and Dave O'Brien immediately after Friday night's win in Toronto were telling.
