About Rob Bradford

Rob Bradford joined WEEI.com after serving as a Red Sox beat writer for the Boston Herald and the Eagle-Tribune (Lawrence, Mass.). Prior to manning the Red Sox beat, he spent several years at the Lowell Sun. He has written two books: “Chasing Steinbrenner,” following the front offices of the Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays through the 2003 season, and “Deep Drive: A Long Journey to Discovering the Champion Within,” which he co-authored with Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell.

TORONTO -- There are turnarounds, and then there are turnarounds.
Rob Bradford
07/21/2014 - 9:02am
TORONTO -- Winning the Cy Young Award in a contract year. It wouldn't be historic, but it certainly would offer a powerful punctuation.
Rob Bradford
07/19/2014 - 12:30am
You will be hard-pressed to find anybody in the Red Sox clubhouse who will admit it.
Rob Bradford
07/17/2014 - 8:37am
News flash: Age is a tricky thing. Hard for front offices to figure, and difficult for players (and sometimes agents) to accept. Look around that American League All-Star team's clubhouse Tuesday and all kind of reminders of the aforementioned uncertainty could be found. For instance ...

MINNEAPOLIS -- Major League Baseball needs to make up its mind.
Rob Bradford
07/14/2014 - 12:44am
MINNEAPOLIS -- "What happened to the Red Sox?" As the media started to descend on Target Field Sunday for the All-Star Game festivities, it was a question that was relayed every time John Farrell's team entered into conversation. The answer?
Rob Bradford
07/13/2014 - 12:06am
They don't want to let go of hope. That much was evident just by listening to Jake Peavy's final remarks of the day following the Red Sox' 3-2 loss to Houston Saturday.
Rob Bradford
07/10/2014 - 4:07am
It had a really good chance of being bad when it started. By the end, it was worse than anybody could have expected.
Rob Bradford
07/07/2014 - 12:10am
So you think the Jon Lester conversation has been occasionally spicy so far? Well, dig in. One week from Monday it's going next-level, the kind of scene that can be uncomfortable for some heading into the final months of their contract. And you know what? That probably will be OK with Lester.
Rob Bradford
07/01/2014 - 5:06am
Yes, Jake Arietta was good. Very good. Almost no-hitter kind of good. But that doesn't really matter.
Rob Bradford
06/25/2014 - 4:53am
SEATTLE -- It's time to start turning over this team.
Rob Bradford
06/24/2014 - 5:57am
SEATTLE -- We should have known better.
Rob Bradford
06/19/2014 - 9:06am
Here comes Oakland. Here comes a reality check. The Red Sox are about to face the best team in the American League for four games. The A's are good. Good at pitching. Good at hitting. Good at winning.
Rob Bradford
06/16/2014 - 11:51pm
I like baseball a lot. At 8 p.m. Monday, I liked soccer better. This wasn't intended. When I walked into the Fenway Park press box just before 6 p.m. (or 7 p.m., Natal, Brazil, time) my focus was solely on looking up Tony Gwynn's 1994 batting average and learning what was on the media dining room menu.
Rob Bradford
06/16/2014 - 7:44am
So, why did Jon Lester make that comment? What exactly does "hometown discount" mean?
Rob Bradford
06/11/2014 - 4:07am
BALTIMORE -- The question to Dustin Pedroia was simple. "Do you think you guys can win the World Series?"
Rob Bradford
06/09/2014 - 5:35am
DETROIT -- The home run won the game. Let's get that out of the way.
Rob Bradford
06/04/2014 - 2:09am
CLEVELAND -- If there was ever a night that highlighted one of the Red Sox' biggest problems, it was this one.
Rob Bradford
06/03/2014 - 1:19am
CLEVELAND -- Every start says something. But, as Justin Masterson explained after his win over the Red Sox on Monday night, that doesn't mean he has to listen.
Rob Bradford
06/02/2014 - 1:42am
CLEVELAND -- It's going pretty well for the Red Sox. Seven straight wins kind of well. So why change?
Rob Bradford
05/28/2014 - 4:17am
ATLANTA -- The process is nothing new.
Rob Bradford
05/27/2014 - 12:30am
ATLANTA -- Juan Nieves said this about Clay Buchholz Monday: "We're not expecting him to be Cy Young."
Rob Bradford
05/26/2014 - 1:00am
ATLANTA -- One Red Sox player walking out of Tropicana Field this weekend surfaced the reality that has come to the forefront courtesy this 10-game losing streak.
Rob Bradford
05/19/2014 - 1:57am
It's time. The Red Sox should make their move on Stephen Drew (whatever that move might be). It might not work out, but it will be worth a try. At this point, they need to try something.
