C.J. Wilson is most likely not walking through that door, and you also shouldn't be counting on the big Yu Darvish press conference.

BALTIMORE -- It's cliche to say nobody deserves the fate the 2011 Red Sox found themselves with. But that's not true. Many, for various reasons, did.

BALTIMORE -- Three seasons ago, it was because of a sick pitcher. Wednesday it will be due to an under-the-weather organization. Regardless, Jon Lester has once again been called upon to save the Sox.

BALTIMORE -- Do you know the last time the Red Sox won two games in a row? It was exactly one month ago.

It was Aug. 17 and the Rays were leaving town having taken two out of three against the Red Sox. Still, reality had seemingly set in for Tampa Bay, which found itself eight games in back of the Sox in the chase for the wild card with 39 games left to play.

This is the Red Sox' chance. Forget the six straight losses to the Rays. Dismiss the 9-2 defeat at the hands of Tampa Bay Thursday night. And disregard the dwindling lead (now three games) in the Wild Card race. Now, it's all about finally getting off the ropes.

The following is a look at where each member of the Red Sox (the same Red Sox who are now just three games ahead of the Rays in the Wild Card race) find themselves heading into the regular season's final 16 games:

TORONTO -- It wasn't exactly smothered with panic, but David Ortiz' comments after the Red Sox' latest loss did offer somewhat of a warning shot.

TORONTO -- Just two years earlier, Marco Scutaro found himself in a similar place to where he landed Tuesday night.

TORONTO -- Monday -- the day the Red Sox suffered a 1-0, 11-inning loss to the Blue Jays -- might end up being a memorable moment in this 2011 season. For Sox fans' sake, they better hope that isn't the case.

Conor Jackson's father, John, played Rear Admiral A.J. Chegwidden on the television series "JAG." That's not why the Red Sox acquired Jackson.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Can one player carry a team the likes of the Red Sox? Or how about two, or maybe three?

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Jarrod Saltalmacchia spoke the truth after the Red Sox' 4-0 loss to the Rangers Monday night. Question: Does this defeat, or the fact that the Rangers have now won all four of their meetings with the Sox this season, mean anything come October?

ARLINGTON, Texas -- It was one of a flood of introductions Boston had to Erik Bedard, most of which came before the pitcher even set foot down at Logan Airport.

KANSAS CITY -- How can somebody so unpredictable be so predictable? This is the riddle that follows Alfredo Aceves. The perception -- and reality -- is that Aceves is a non-stop man in motion, both physically and verbally, often times going down one path and then suddenly veering off in an entirely different direction.

Nobody -- not one person -- was bringing up a rarely-mentioned clause in Dustin Pedroia's contract throughout those first two months of the 2011 season. The reason? He was hitting .239 on June 4, 56 games into his fifth full big league season.

How is it going to end for Jonathan Papelbon? Where will the closer's career take him after this season? How long will he stay in baseball? His answer: "No idea." Papelbon, however, has locked in one aspect of his future.
