About Rob Bradford

Rob Bradford joined WEEI.com after serving as a Red Sox beat writer for the Boston Herald and the Eagle-Tribune (Lawrence, Mass.). Prior to manning the Red Sox beat, he spent several years at the Lowell Sun. He has written two books: “Chasing Steinbrenner,” following the front offices of the Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays through the 2003 season, and “Deep Drive: A Long Journey to Discovering the Champion Within,” which he co-authored with Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- This isn't about where they are. It's not about who they are. It's about what they have. That is currently the predicament the Red Sox have found themselves in. Here is what we're talking about: WHERE THEY ARE

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- J.D. Drew summed up a play, and perhaps a season. "Tonight," said the Red Sox outfielder, "was very strange."

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Dustin Pedroia realizes that in all likelihood, surgery is on the horizon. And because of this reality, the second baseman is bracing himself for yet another challenge.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Red Sox weren't going to pretend this was just one of 162. That was evidenced in the way they talked, and, more importantly, the way they played.

08/24/2010 - 7:24am
Sitting in the dugout, with his left foot still throbbing from his attempted return after fracturing the navicular bone, Dustin Pedroia summed up his situation. "You never know what can happen," the second baseman deadpanned. And that's why he signed.

08/22/2010 - 1:07am
With a walk-off homer under his belt, along with a sense of accomplishment he had serious doubts would be an option this season, Jed Lowrie uttered one more thing before leaving the Red Sox' clubhouse Saturday night.

Wednesday night offered a reminder. A reminder of just how perfect Jonathan Papelbon and the town he plays in go together.

Perhaps this isn't a fair comparison, but it will help paint a picture:

Dustin Pedroia will get his ovation on Tuesday. He will play his baseball, ending his longest hiatus he has endured without the sport in the post-Tee ball portion of his 27 years on this planet.

NEW YORK -- As Daniel Bard pointed out, a lot can happen in what is left of this, the 2010 regular season. But as we sit here right now, Monday afternoon offered us a glimpse into two things:

NEW YORK -- Somebody needs to step up.
Rob Bradford
07/26/2010 - 3:09am
The Red Sox would seem to be in a bind.

What has to be frustrating for Theo Epstein is that the plan was on its way to working.
Rob Bradford
07/19/2010 - 7:31am
People wanted the Red Sox to be throwing around some sort of desperation while they packed their bags following a 4-2 loss to the Rangers Sunday afternoon.
Rob Bradford

So, how and when did Adrian Beltre learn to deal with pain? He doesn't have to take more than a few seconds to find his answer even though the moment came 20 years earlier.
Rob Bradford

ANAHEIM -- These are the words of Adrian Gonzalez just prior to the 2009 All-Star Game: "I would be interested in the future to see what that would be like (to play in another park).”
Rob Bradford

ANAHEIM -- Torii Hunter said he predicted it … sort of.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- "The past is history. Tomorrow's a mystery." Leave it to Vanilla Ice to bring everything back into perspective.
Rob Bradford
07/06/2010 - 2:33am
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Fans are worried. They are worried about the Red Sox. They are worried about the team's bullpen. And, perhaps most of all, they are worried about Daniel Bard.
Rob Bradford
07/05/2010 - 9:33pm
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Josh Beckett will take another step toward pitching again on Tuesday, when he throws to Gulf Coast League hitters in his first rehab assignment since going on the 15-day disabled list on May 19 with a bad back.

It's not what the players in the Red Sox clubhouse were going out of their way to talk about following a 9-3 win over the Orioles on Saturday night at Fenway Park. But to say it wasn't on more than a few minds simply wouldn't be accurate.
