There was never a kindler, gentler or more loyal man than Dick Kelley. At least, none I have ever met in my 21 years of covering Boston sports. The man was pure gold to me.
Mike Petraglia
02/10/2014 - 1:46pm
Enough with the games. Danny Ainge, the man charged with presiding over the most successful franchise in Boston sports, will be busy listening to offers for valuable pieces on his roster over the next week, leading up to the NBA trade deadline of Feb. 20.

01/30/2014 - 12:53pm
NEW YORK -- Just think of it -- Richard Sherman talking everyone up in Foxboro. It's just what the Patriots need. The perfect blend of swagger, confidence and skill in the secondary.
Mike Petraglia
01/28/2014 - 10:10pm
NEWARK -- Pete Carroll deflected the question at first. How has the past made him a better coach? That past, as it relates to his NFL head coaching career, began just up the Jersey Turnpike in 1994. That year the current Seattle head coach spent a ill-fated season guiding the Jets to a 6-10 record.

01/25/2014 - 3:17pm
"We hang our hat on defense, not on offense. We didn't shoot the ball the way we wanted to. We gut it out. We know what we are. We're all grit, all grit, all grit and balls, that's what it is man. That's what we are." Kevin Garnett.

01/20/2014 - 12:31am
DENVER -- It hasn't happened often in their 15 epic encounters, but Peyton Manning outplayed Tom Brady, and it was the difference in the AFC championship game.
Mike Petraglia
01/12/2014 - 10:45am
FOXBORO -- As LeGarrette Blount answered questions for over 30 minutes in front of his locker after his historic effort in a 43-22 playoff win over the Colts, there was another running back holding court just three lockers down on "Running Back Row" who didn't have such a shabby day himself.
Mike Petraglia
12/30/2013 - 11:03am
FOXBORO -- I've seen enough. These Patriots are Super Bowl caliber.
Mike Petraglia
12/22/2013 - 11:50pm
BALTIMORE -- Logan Mankins could only smile and laugh. He was asked if he was insulted that some so-called experts figured the Patriots and their banged-up offensive line would get manhandled by a tough Ravens defense.
Mike Petraglia
12/20/2013 - 8:37pm
FOXBORO -- Forget Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. There's no better or bigger rivalry in football than Patriots-Ravens.
Mike Petraglia
12/15/2013 - 10:16pm
If that's what January is going to look like, it's going to be a short postseason for the Patriots. Too many dropped passes in the clutch. The inability to stop a team on fourth down when you have them dead to rights. A kick out of bounds after a go-ahead touchdown.
Mike Petraglia
12/09/2013 - 1:56pm
FOXBORO -- All hope is not lost. Yes, Rob Gronkowski appears to be lost for the season with a right knee injury that was described by Browns players on the scene Sunday as "gruesome."
Mike Petraglia
12/01/2013 - 2:11pm
CINCINNATI -- Sports can bridge the past and present unlike anything known in the universe. It's the mix of excitement and emotion peppered with your surroundings that makes you not only remember where you were but what you were doing and what you felt at a precise moment in time.
Mike Petraglia
11/25/2013 - 10:55am
FOXBORO -- No wonder people can't get enough of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Especially Patriots fans.
Mike Petraglia
11/21/2013 - 2:16pm
FOXBORO -- Can too much of a great thing be bad? If you're talking about hyping up Tom Brady and Peyton Manning for the umpteenth time, yes. Even the combatants are sick and tired of talking about it.
Mike Petraglia
11/19/2013 - 2:02am
Yep, the Patriots got screwed Monday night.
Mike Petraglia
11/06/2013 - 12:38pm
FOXBORO -- This bye week is no vacation for Tom Brady. Sure, he knows he can use the rest to heal the bumps and bruises. Sure, he can let up a little and spend more time with Gisele and the kids.
Mike Petraglia
10/27/2013 - 9:59pm
FOXBORO -- Do you believe in these Patriots yet? They beat the Dolphins on Sunday, 27-17, scoring 24 unanswered points, making big play after big play on defense, sacking the quarterback six times and finally putting Miami away.
Mike Petraglia
10/20/2013 - 7:17pm
EAST RUTHERFORD -- There was just no excuse Sunday. Plenty of reasons, perhaps, but no excuse for the Patriots coughing up a 21-10 halftime lead and gagging their way to a 30-27 overtime loss to the Jets at MetLife Stadium.
Mike Petraglia
10/10/2013 - 11:17pm
FOXBORO -- Enough is enough.
Mike Petraglia
10/05/2013 - 2:07pm
CINCINNATI -- Welcome to the city with an identity crisis.
Mike Petraglia
09/30/2013 - 1:27am
There was nothing ugly about the Patriots Sunday night.
Mike Petraglia
09/22/2013 - 6:41pm
FOXBORO -- Do you believe in the Patriots defense now? You should. The Patriots are 3-0 after facing quarterbacks named EJ Manuel, Geno Smith and Josh Freeman.
Mike Petraglia
09/13/2013 - 12:42am
FOXBORO -- Ugly is as ugly does. On many levels, the NFL Network's showcase game on Thursday night was a study in ineptitude for the NFL.
