Here’s some free advice for Larry Lucchino. Hold a press conference and begin it with the following words: “We’re sorry and embarrassed for the way our organization has behaved.”

FOXBORO – Let’s get one thing straight. These are not the 2007 Patriots. Why? Because these Patriots will go as far as their young defense takes them. Absurd?

Just imagine ... Robert Kraft stops by Bill Belichick’s office and says, “I don’t really like the way Scott O’Brien yelled at Chandler Jones this week for not getting in the special teams huddle during kick-off drills.”
Mike Petraglia
07/27/2012 - 11:47am
FOXBORO -- As I was waiting with the huddled masses around an agility cone on the Patriots practice field Thursday, I was thinking about how I was going try to tone down all those “undefeated” predictions and try and convince people that the Patriots are not going undefeated.

This week has changed my feeling and belief on the Red Sox.

Forget the whining about contracts, the imminent return of two-thirds of Boston’s outfield and the Red Sox bats getting hot again at Fenway Park.

FOXBORO -- There has never been a sports franchise more focused and determined than the Patriots. That single-minded purpose was again on full display this week during the team’s annual June minicamp. What did I learn from attending all three days?

I was all set and ready to write the “See, I told you so” column for the Trags Bag this week.

There’s something missing from this rendition of what -- before Bird and Magic -- was the most intense rivalry in basketball.

Even Celtics owner Stephen Pagliuca had to wonder what was up.

After Carl Beane earned the full-time PA gig at Fenway in 2003 after sharing it in his first season, he said to me, “Mike, I want to do what Sherm Feller did.” “What’s that?” I replied.

Rajon Rondo and his teammates have hugged it all out. That’s apparently all that was needed to right the wrongs after Sunday night.
Mike Petraglia

It was a startling sight. Adrian Gonzalez has developed a reputation for being as even-tempered in manner as he is consistent as a hitter. And so the image of the slugger swatting his bat and knocking it to the ground in utter frustration bordered on shocking.

04/18/2012 - 6:03pm
If you’re a Bruins fan, be proud, very proud.  You don’t need cheap shot artists to take out the other team’s best players to have a chance to win another Stanley Cup. Yes, you have Shawn Thornton. But he’s not skating around the ice, putting his stick between the legs of Brad Marchand.
Mike Petraglia
04/13/2012 - 11:04am
Mark it down. The Bruins will repeat as Stanley Cup champs.

The mere suggestion of the question two years ago would have people spitting out their Fenway Franks or spilling their Legal Seafood chowder all over their laps: As the Red Sox open their 112th season on Thursday, how much do they matter?
Mike Petraglia
03/30/2012 - 11:08am
Success in sports is all about confidence.  Avery Bradley has it right now and Jose Iglesias – despite his home run Wednesday in a minor league game in Florida – doesn’t.
Mike Petraglia

The New York Jets are a mess.  Peyton Manning stayed away from them like a prospective house buyer stays away from land on a radioactive waste site.

Bill Belichick has it a lot better than Danny Ainge -- a lot better.
Mike Petraglia

I’m all in. I’m convinced. I believe. The Celtics have one more memorable playoff run left in them.
Mike Petraglia

Eventually, this had to happen. Jason Varitek is no longer a voice in the Red Sox clubhouse. He retired Thursday and it’s best thing that could’ve happened for all parties involved.
