COLUMNS

10/11/2013 - 12:17am
FOXBORO -- Enough is enough.
Mike Petraglia
10/05/2013 - 3:07pm
CINCINNATI -- Welcome to the city with an identity crisis.
Mike Petraglia
09/30/2013 - 2:27am
There was nothing ugly about the Patriots Sunday night. There was just grit, determination and eventually domination of a team that clearly wasn't ready for prime time. All we've heard in the first three weeks of the season is how these Patriots are going to have to win ugly, that they aren't the same Patriots that have run roughshod over the AFC for the better part of the last 13 years.
Mike Petraglia
09/22/2013 - 7:41pm
FOXBORO -- Do you believe in the Patriots defense now? You should. The Patriots are 3-0 after facing quarterbacks named EJ Manuel, Geno Smith and Josh Freeman.
Mike Petraglia
09/13/2013 - 1:42am
FOXBORO -- Ugly is as ugly does. On many levels, the NFL Network's showcase game on Thursday night was a study in ineptitude for the NFL.
Mike Petraglia
09/08/2013 - 7:27pm
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Patriots got lucky Sunday. No way around it. They won a game they could have easily lost because of sloppiness and a lack of execution.
Mike Petraglia
08/28/2013 - 2:08pm
FOXBORO -- Robert Kraft knew this day was coming. From the moment Aaron Hernandez was arrested, charged and indicted for the first degree murder of Odin Lloyd, he knew the Patriots would come under heavy scrutiny for what they did and didn't know about their former star tight end's background.
Mike Petraglia
08/23/2013 - 1:16am
It was almost as if everything came too easy for Tom Brady and the Patriots in the first two preseason games. The starting quarterback was 18-for-20 for 172 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a nearly-perfect 135.8 QB rating. They blew out Philadelphia, 31-22, and handled Tampa Bay, 25-21.
Mike Petraglia
08/17/2013 - 6:02pm
FOXBORO -- Football shares this much in common with baseball - control the middle and you control the game. Good defense runs up the spine. Any cliche you want to use, football and baseball are brothers in that regard.
Mike Petraglia
08/09/2013 - 11:28pm
A true running attack? From the Patriots? From the moment Stevan Ridley touched the ball on the first play from scrimmage Friday night in South Philadelphia, the Patriots offense felt different.
Mike Petraglia
08/07/2013 - 10:25pm
CHESTNUT HILL -- Listen to Steve Addazio for 30 seconds and you're sold. You're sold on him as a college football coach. You're sold on his ability to recruit Division 1-quality football players to Boston College, the lifeblood of any relevant program these days.
Mike Petraglia
07/31/2013 - 11:28pm
FOXBORO -- Most NFL offensive coordinators would be shaking in their headsets at losing the top five receivers from the previous season.
Mike Petraglia
07/25/2013 - 10:48pm
FOXBORO -- There was plenty written and said in the days and weeks after Aaron Hernandez was charged with murder that the Patriot Way was a thing of the past. Tom Brady would beg to differ -- a lot.
Mike Petraglia
07/24/2013 - 7:42pm
FOXBORO -- Satisfied?
Mike Petraglia
07/23/2013 - 10:49am
They've seen it from afar. Now, the Red Sox are seeing up close just why the Tampa Bay Rays have become their worst nightmare in the American League East.
Mike Petraglia
07/21/2013 - 11:10am
Mariano Rivera is far more than a lock to go to Cooperstown.
Mike Petraglia
07/19/2013 - 1:13pm
I'll admit it. I walked into the Red Sox clubhouse Thursday and wondered, "How are these guys doing it?" How are these Red Sox an American League-best 58-39 coming out of the All-Star break with names like Brock Holt, Drake Britton, Brandon Workman, Alex Wilson, Steven Wright and Brandon Snyder?
Mike Petraglia
07/16/2013 - 12:58pm
WALTHAM -- I was in the room Monday, wondering -- along with all my esteemed colleagues -- just what to make of these new-look Celtics.
Mike Petraglia
06/25/2013 - 2:25am
We were all robbed. This Stanley Cup series should have gone seven games. You know it. I know it. The Bruins know it. Even the Blackhawks coach knows it.
Mike Petraglia
06/23/2013 - 12:53am
CHICAGO -- The Bruins dressing room here inside United Center after Saturday’s 3-1 Game 5 loss to the Blackhawks resembled more of a triage unit dealing with shocked patients than it did a hockey team facing long odds of pulling off a second mini-miracle in two years.
Mike Petraglia
06/20/2013 - 2:04am
You didn’t think it was going to be that easy, did you? You didn’t think the Bruins could hold Chicago down the way they did Pittsburgh, did you? You didn’t think with Marian Hossa back in the lineup for the Presidents' Trophy winners, the Bruins would walk over the opposition in Game 4, did you?
Mike Petraglia
06/18/2013 - 1:01am
It’s time to recognize Patrice Bergeron for what he is: the best all-around player in hockey. That’s right. Not just the Bruins, hockey.
Mike Petraglia
06/16/2013 - 7:08pm
Claude Julien has instilled many championship characteristics in his team. They are fundamentally sound on defense. They stand up for each other and call each other out in the sanctity of the dressing room and never outside. They take care of themselves, on and off the ice.
Mike Petraglia
06/12/2013 - 11:19am
FOXBORO -- I came, I saw, I survived. And I think I believe Tim Tebow is actually now a formal member of the New England Patriots.
Mike Petraglia
06/06/2013 - 6:35pm
About 90 minutes before Wednesday’s Game 3 at TD Garden, before fans were in the building and with very few eyes on him, Jaromir Jagr went for spin on the ice in front of the Bruins bench. The skate lasted less than 30 seconds.
