COLUMNS
Mike Petraglia
02/01/2013 - 10:15am
This is why Bruins fans were so eager in November and December for owner Jeremy Jacobs and NHL owners to take the padlocks off the doors at Ristuccia Arena, put the ice under the parquet and put the bull gang back to full duty at the Garden.
Mike Petraglia
01/25/2013 - 9:00am
This time we mean it. This is it. This is the last waltz for Paul Pierce and his Celtics.
Mike Petraglia
01/18/2013 - 9:24am
FOXBORO -- Hey NFL, get over it. The Patriots have been the best team in pro football for over a decade now, and still there are mistakable signs of envy and resentment.
Mike Petraglia
01/11/2013 - 11:52am
From a sports column in The Boston Globe to talk radio to the average fan on the street, there certainly doesn’t seem to be any reason for the Texans to show up Sunday at Gillette Stadium for their AFC divisional playoff with the Patriots.
Mike Petraglia
01/04/2013 - 12:29pm
There has been endless talk this week about the woes of the Celtics. What can be done to fix a roster that is producing nothing but disappointment and frustration?
Mike Petraglia
12/28/2012 - 11:42am
Resolutions. It’s the time-honored tradition of making promises for the coming year. Some resolutions we intend to do our very best to keep. For others, we just go through the motions of recognizing the need to improve but know deep down there isn’t enough resolve to carry them through to fruition.
Mike Petraglia
12/21/2012 - 10:39am
FOXBORO -- So, you’re a Patriots fan looking for a reason to make games against 2-12 Jacksonville and 6-8 Miami interesting in the final two weeks when New England already has wrapped up a division title and playoff berth. My suggestion?
Mike Petraglia
12/14/2012 - 10:03am
California native Tom Brady had to have known the question was coming this week in Foxboro. How does he compare to his childhood idol, Joe Montana?
Mike Petraglia
12/07/2012 - 12:01pm
FOXBORO -- As Tom Brady stepped to the podium Wednesday at Gillette Stadium, I asked him very casually if it feels like another big week in a career of big weeks. “Yes it does,” Brady said without hesitation. “It’s December.”
Mike Petraglia
11/30/2012 - 11:57am
There are three subjects that really struck me this week. On the surface they seem completely and entirely unrelated.
Mike Petraglia
11/21/2012 - 3:12pm
I moan about traffic on Route 20 leading to Route 128 on my way to Gillette Stadium every morning. I know I complain to my daughters about it being pitch black at 4:20 p.m. driving them to swimming practice in mid-November.
Mike Petraglia
11/16/2012 - 1:10am
FOXBORO -- As we were sitting in the press box before last Sunday’s game against the Bills, I turned to my colleague Kirk Minihane and asked if he thought Logan Mankins had any chance of playing with calf and hip injuries. I should’ve known better.
Mike Petraglia
11/09/2012 - 8:43am
FOXBORO -- Forget questions about his shirtless jacket wardrobe at the Aerosmith concert on Commonwealth Ave. or what he's doing at home to get ready for a third child.
Mike Petraglia
11/02/2012 - 9:51am
They play two entirely different sports with two vastly different body types. Brandon Spikes is a 6-foot-2 beast of an inside linebacker who weighs 255 pounds and flies around the football field trying to punish whoever gets in his way. He sees the target and destroys it.
Mike Petraglia
10/26/2012 - 1:57pm
Any conversation about the greatest coach in Boston sports history begins and ends with Arnold “Red” Auerbach. Creating the greatest basketball dynasty in history, winning eight straight championships and drafting, developing and coaching the greatest defensive player of all time pretty much seals the deal.
Mike Petraglia
10/19/2012 - 12:57pm
FOXBORO -- The Patriots-Jets rivalry isn’t what it used to be. Even Rex Ryan seems bored by it all.
Mike Petraglia
10/12/2012 - 9:17am
CINCINNATI -- Bronson Arroyo for Wily Mo Pena. Mention that Theo Epstein trade at the end of spring training 2006 to Red Sox fans and most of them cringe -- at least those who remember thinking at the time that they found their replacement to Trot Nixon in right field.
Mike Petraglia
10/05/2012 - 10:46am
Say this for the Red Sox, there’s a reason for every move they make.
Mike Petraglia
09/28/2012 - 11:41am
I must admit, I didn’t see Week 4 in Buffalo as a “must-win” situation for the Patriots when the schedule came out in April. But then again, most fans assumed a win over the Cardinals in Week 2 in the home opener.
Mike Petraglia
09/21/2012 - 10:19am
FOXBORO -- Mention the name Ray Lewis to Vince Wilfork and his eyes light up. “Love for the game,” Wilfork beamed on Thursday when I asked him what Ray Lewis means to him on and off the field.
Mike Petraglia
09/14/2012 - 9:43am
FOXBORO -- There are moments that define every NFL player’s career. There are moments that stick out as unforgettable timestamps and unmistakable landmarks in history.
Mike Petraglia
09/07/2012 - 7:39am
FOXBORO -- Predictions in the NFL come a dime a dozen. It’s why Vegas loves the NFL. As mentioned here last week, the Patriots are 11-2 to raise the Lombardi Trophy on Feb. 2 in New Orleans.
Mike Petraglia
08/24/2012 - 12:54pm
Believe it or not, I’ll be paying attention to the Red Sox in September. No, I’m not watching for the latest silly, mindless drama or to see if the team can reverse last September and go 20-7. I’m actually watching because there are -- believe it or not -- many compelling storylines that may give insight to what the Red Sox look like in 2013 and going forward.
