About Kirk Minihane

Kirk Minihane thinks "Slap Shot" is -- without argument -- the best sports movie ever made and is also convinced the 1985-86 Celtics would have finished with a record of 78-4 if they had cared about the regular season. He has been a columnist at WEEI.com since 2009 and is now part of The Dennis & Callahan Show.

COLUMNS
Kirk Minihane
12/14/2011 - 12:10pm
Tim Tebow has managed to pull it off. He's the most underrated and overrated quarterback on the planet today. First: I was wrong about Tebow.
Kirk Minihane
12/13/2011 - 7:19am
Report Card time and we'll start with a question: Does anyone think this defense is going to stop Tim Tebow?
Kirk Minihane
12/07/2011 - 12:02pm
“Just one of those things you’ve got to do once in a while as a coach. He’s missed some meetings. Obviously it’s not the first time. When it’s the first time, you give guys a break. But it’s happened more than a few times. At one point, he’s got to hold himself responsible. We felt he could have easily done that.
Kirk Minihane
12/06/2011 - 7:13am
Report Card time and we'll start here: Is it possible that Tom Brady is underrated?
Kirk Minihane
11/30/2011 - 12:06pm
It's over.
Kirk Minihane
11/29/2011 - 8:08am
Report Card time and we'll start with two questions:
Kirk Minihane
11/23/2011 - 7:51am
Report Card time and a quick word about running up the score in the NFL.
Kirk Minihane
11/20/2011 - 10:23pm
Scott Pioli has won the George Young NFL Executive of the Year Award twice (he's been named Exec of the Year three times by the Pro Football Writers of America). In 2009, ESPN put together its All-Decade Team.
Kirk Minihane
11/16/2011 - 12:02pm
Mailbag time, and we touch 'em all this week.
Kirk Minihane
11/15/2011 - 6:55am
Report Card time and Patriots 37, Jets 16 doesn't change, in my view, the ultimate destination of the 2011 New England Patriots. This team simply doesn't have the defensive talent to win three (or four) playoff games. Sorry.
Kirk Minihane
11/10/2011 - 9:39am
In the end, all Joe Paterno cared about was Joe Paterno.
Kirk Minihane
11/09/2011 - 5:58am
“He can do almost anything he wants. He doesn’t want to do anything. To me, that’s the issue. He’s one of those guys you walk in a meeting and you tell him, ‘Put down the phone.’ The next day you have to tell him to put down the phone. The next day, you tell him to put down the phone.
Kirk Minihane
11/08/2011 - 7:14am
Report Card time and Sunday's loss to the Giants is on Tom Brady and Tom Brady alone.
Kirk Minihane
11/02/2011 - 12:22pm
Look, it’s all Bill Belichick bashing here this week. There was a time when that was viewed as more of a warning than an invitation (and still probably is by some).
Kirk Minihane
11/01/2011 - 5:46am
Report Card Time and tattoo this please behind your eyelids and remember it the next time an opponent converts a third-and-13 or another QB puts up a 100 passer rating against this Patriots defense and you very much want to forever strip the HC of the NEP of genius status:
Kirk Minihane
10/26/2011 - 11:10am
Five thoughts a day after a pair of press conferences that shook the city of Boston (OK, not really) and caused us to ask the toughest question of all: Is it possible NESN (gasp) lacks credibility?
Kirk Minihane
10/25/2011 - 7:15am
Bye Week Report Card time and we'll start with a question: Is this team going 14-2 again?
Kirk Minihane
10/19/2011 - 10:55am
So now we can add Jason Varitek to the list of Red Sox players who have spoken (on the record, at least) since the end of the season.
Kirk Minihane
10/18/2011 - 6:29am
"I'm not apologizing to anyone for being aggressive and trying to win. That's what we are here for. … You can say a lot of things about me as a coach. One thing I'm NOT is scared. I'm not afraid to go for it." -- Bill Belichick
Kirk Minihane
10/12/2011 - 11:17am
"Even after he became the owner of a real big league baseball team, [John] Henry continued to play in a sophisticated fantasy league in which he deployed Jamesean tools and, as he put it, 'cleaned up. I won every year.'" -- Moneyball
Kirk Minihane
10/11/2011 - 5:53am
Report Card time, and I have no idea if Wes Welker is the best wide receiver in the NFL.
Kirk Minihane
10/06/2011 - 3:35pm
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Here are the four things you really, really need to know about the Jets following Thursady's practice …
Kirk Minihane
10/04/2011 - 5:59am
One man's Week 4 Patriots Report Card, written with the understanding that while Wes Welker probably won't maintain his 160-catch pace, he's got a better chance than Vince Wilfork does keeping his eight
Kirk Minihane
09/27/2011 - 5:41am
Report Card time and comparing Chad Ochocinco to Carl Crawford is silly, of course -- about $136 million reasons why that doesn't work -- but it strikes me that both have had a tough time adjusting to new teams (and I'll bet you never thought of that -- it's why they pay me, folks).
Kirk Minihane
09/22/2011 - 9:24am
Mailbag Time and let's get this out of the way: I think Theo Epstein is a good general manager, for all the reasons we've heard a million times (developing players, pretty solid trade track record, etc.) I'm not a professional Theo-basher (you've read them and heard 'em on the radio -- the guy can't do a
