About Kirk Minihane

Kirk Minihane thinks "Slap Shot" is -- without argument -- the best sports movie ever made and is also convinced the 1985-86 Celtics would have finished with a record of 78-4 if they had cared about the regular season. He has been a columnist at WEEI.com since 2009 and is now part of The Dennis & Callahan Show.

So it seems Josh Beckett, on the DL with shoulder discomfort, isn't going to speak to the media anymore.  Good for him. Makes all the sense in the world to me. And as a member of the media I wonder why more guys don't do it.

"If Youk returns in a week and is ready to go, he plays third base. He's been here. It's great that Will has come up and done a good job and we like him a lot and he's a big part of our future. But Youk's on the DL and he didn't lose his job because he got hurt." -- Ben Cherington Walk me through this, because I'm missing something.

Immature. Selfish. Self-destructive. Moronic. Indefensible. All are absolutely accurate if describing Rajon Rondo's chest-bump of referee Marc Davis with 41 seconds left in Sunday's loss to the Hawks. Add this, please: Potentially series-altering.

Ben Cherington is off to a lousy start. Look, that doesn't mean he'll be a failure. This is not a GM obit, he could very easily turn out to be a terrific executive. To suggest that we should come to a verdict on Ben Cherington, GM, before Opening Day of his first year in charge would be about as stupid as it is insulting.

"I thought that the manager that managed the Mets that I was not a big fan of was now going to be a different manager, and I don't think there's anything different at all. There's a lot of things I think that are happening not just from his perspective, but when you talk to these guys -- and I'm still talking to some of these guys -- I don't think this is going well.

So we’ve now had 44 full seasons since Carl Yastrzemski won the Triple Crown. If no one manages to pull it off this season it will be 45 years, which is really remarkable. Forty-five years.
