About Kirk Minihane

Kirk Minihane thinks "Slap Shot" is -- without argument -- the best sports movie ever made and is also convinced the 1985-86 Celtics would have finished with a record of 78-4 if they had cared about the regular season. He has been a columnist at WEEI.com since 2009 and is the co-host of "Sports Saturday" on WEEI.

Report card time, and remember this if you are understandably ready to bury this team after watching Mark Sanchez go up and down the field a week after watching Russell Wilson outplay Tom Brady:

FOXBORO -- Did that feel like a win to you?

Report Card Time and a very quick Q&A before we get started. Is the sky falling?

There were two quarterbacks playing at CenturyLink Field in Seattle on Sunday afternoon. One is a rookie and the other played like a rookie.

Dan Shaughnessy blames me for fans in Kansas City cheering when Matt Cassel was knocked out with a head injury last Sunday.

Report card time, and if Wes Welker goes back to the bench when Julian Edelman returns, we've really got a story.
Kirk Minihane
10/04/2012 - 5:21pm
Bobby Valentine has finally been fired -- why didn't this happen months ago? -- and that's a very good thing for the Boston Red Sox.
Kirk Minihane
10/04/2012 - 9:26am
There are 32 days until the 2012 elections. I expect it will get ugly, as it inevitably does. Or uglier, I suppose. Let Mitt Romney attack President Obama for his failures, let Obama bash Romney for his inconsistencies and let it get personal and gossipy and childish and let us act offended and outraged when the mud is flying fastest while we quietly enjoy it. Without the soap opera stuff all we've got is two guys talking about debt ceilings and Simpson-Bowles and who needs that?
Kirk Minihane
10/02/2012 - 6:49am
Report Card Time and it kind of says a lot about what we've seen over the last decade or so with this franchise that they can put up 45 points in 25 minutes and no one is really screaming about the fact that they put up 45 points in 25 minutes.
Kirk Minihane

Patriots 52, Bills 28. Call it The Redemption of Josh McDaniels. Too soon? A bit much?

This is basically going to be a replacement-free piece of real estate this week.
Kirk Minihane
09/18/2012 - 7:38am
The Patriots never lose these games.  Think about it: When the Patriots, with Tom Brady at quarterback, lose regular-season games at home, it's usually to an NFL heavyweight, an A-Lister.

FOXBORO -- What is going on with Wes Welker?
Kirk Minihane
09/11/2012 - 7:36am
I'm all for conspiracy theories.  I mean it, I can't get enough of them. You think the CIA killed JFK? LBJ was involved? The Mafia? Castro? Maybe you've got J. Edgar Hoover pulling the strings. If you've got a semi-plausible motive, a couple of decent twists and genuine enthusiasm I'm usually all in.

The Patriots and Red Sox each have one win this September.

"What an embarrassing thing to say. If I were there right now, I'd punch you right in the mouth. Ha, ha. How's that sound? Is that like I checked out? What an embarrassing thing." -- Bobby Valentine, talking to Glenn Ordway Thursday on The Big Show How did we get here? Who's to blame?
Kirk Minihane
09/04/2012 - 10:38am
So, Ben Cherington and John Henry aren't in Seattle to fire Bobby Valentine. It's a "fact-finding" mission the owner is on, we are told. How much evidence, exactly, does one man need?
Kirk Minihane
08/27/2012 - 6:37am
Freedom. That is what the Dodgers granted the Red Sox, plain and simple. It's been a couple of days and it's still difficult to believe, isn't it?
Kirk Minihane
08/24/2012 - 8:31am
Sometimes it's as simple as it looks.
Kirk Minihane
08/22/2012 - 12:23pm
This isn't Carl Crawford's fault.
Kirk Minihane
08/21/2012 - 11:17am
Hey, we've finally got the bold move Larry Lucchino promised 33 days ago. Bob McClure out, Randy Niemann in as pitching coach. That should solve everything, right?
Kirk Minihane
08/15/2012 - 2:04am
Are the 2012 Red Sox the most dysfunctional team in history? I'm serious about this -- where else does stuff like this happen? It never ends. And the latest chapter is the most troubling and most telling.
Kirk Minihane
08/09/2012 - 8:09am
I'm wrong all the time.
Kirk Minihane
08/06/2012 - 11:20am
“We just have to play better on the field." John Henry to the Boston Globe, 8/4. Not quite. Not even close, actually. How about starting with a look in the mirror?
Kirk Minihane
07/28/2012 - 10:47am
"He’s been an effective starting pitcher in the American League East this year. However you want to look at it, that’s what he’s been. We’re not doing anything to help us if we take that off the table. We’re trying to improve things. … You’ve got to take the win-loss record with a grain of salt. He’s generally given us a chance to win when he’s gone out there. That’s what we’re looking for."
