About Kirk Minihane

Kirk Minihane thinks "Slap Shot" is -- without argument -- the best sports movie ever made and is also convinced the 1985-86 Celtics would have finished with a record of 78-4 if they had cared about the regular season. He has been a columnist at WEEI.com since 2009 and is now part of The Dennis & Callahan Show.

On April 18, Jon Lester allowed seven hits and seven runs in six innings to take the loss against the Rays. His record stood at 0-2 and his ERA was 8.44. When he stood in front of the assembled media after the game he did so as a pitcher at a crossroads.

Now that the NFL draft is (finally) over it's time for football to take a little hiatus from our day-to-day lives until training camp rolls around in a couple of months.  But when the season previews begin get ready for something new.

I don't know how else to put it, so I'll just say it as simply as I can. It seems that Roger Goodell went into his chambers, crunched the numbers and decided that four games is ample punishment for buying a couple of 20-year-old girls some alcohol.

The playoff fate of the 2009-10 Boston Celtics remains very much in doubt. But after Tuesday, two things seem to be clear when you consider how the rest of this postseason will play out for the Celtics.

Are we there yet?  Ready to press the panic button? Believe me, I want to buy into the "small sample size" argument. And I understand that probably every team in baseball, at some point this season, will have at least one stretch where it loses nine of 13 games.

It should have been a night of redemption for Kevin Garnett.

Is it fair to call a season that saw the Boston Celtics win 50 games and the Atlantic Division (by 11 games) a disappointment?

I'm not sure if David Ortiz is finished.

Some winners and losers from a week at the Masters that included a hugely popular win, a pair of old guys making a run, Jim Nantz stepping up the creepy and the introduction of The New Tiger Woods, who, it turns out, is exactly like the Tiger Woods we watched five months ago. I was so disgusted with his behavior on the course over the weekend that I actually went out to my car with a 7-iron and went Elin on the windows.

If there were a quarterback in this year's draft that Bill Belichick was convinced would be a 10-year NFL starter -- and this player was on the board when the Patriots picked 22nd -- would they pull the trigger?

You remember the 12-1 Red Sox win over the California Angels on May 27, 1995, don't you? Come on, who could forget? Luis Alicea had three hits, three RBI and three runs. Troy O'Leary (batting leadoff) also had three hits, and Mo Vaughn homered.

"Honey, don't you understand? Sure, I slept with 19 women. OK, I was wrong. Not huge. I agree. But that was when I wasn't a Buddhist!" What a terrible job by Tiger this morning. Just another train wreck. If that was a round of golf, he shot about 78. Just scarily robotic. They should  have broke out the "Small Wonder" theme song when he walked to the podium.
