About Kirk Minihane

Kirk Minihane thinks "Slap Shot" is -- without argument -- the best sports movie ever made and is also convinced the 1985-86 Celtics would have finished with a record of 78-4 if they had cared about the regular season. He has been a columnist at WEEI.com since 2009 and is the co-host of "Sports Saturday" on WEEI.

OK, Paul Pierce. Ron Artest, the 2004 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a longtime nemesis, has held you to just 13-of-36 shooting in the first three games of the 2010 NBA finals. What's the secret? How is this happening? Just a matter of a great defender meeting the challenge?

Ten Thoughts following a Game 3 while wondering how many fans in attendance on Tuesday night would have accepted a Celtics loss if it guaranteed an appearance on the JumboTron. A really good crowd for Game 3, but I see the way some people look at the 'Tron. They crave their .5 seconds of fame ...

Ten thoughts from a Game 5 that gave every "The NBA is fixed" believer enough fodder to last until 2030, when Dick Bavetta will be 88 years old and working his 66th straight NBA finals. 1. This just in: The Magic are good.  And now we have a series.

You could say Danny Ainge is the most successful basketball general manager currently employed by a franchise that plays at the TD Garden.  He's won a title, pulled off the Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen trades, drafted Rajon Rondo, all the stuff we know.

Ten thoughts from a Game 4 that featured the impossible -- several Magic players actually make eye contact with Stan Van Gundy during the pregame speech. Should have known the Celtics were in trouble at that point.

Ten thoughts from a Game 3 that went a long way in securing the legacy of Vince Carter. Dwight Howard still has time to recover, but there aren't many days of basketball sunshine left for Vince. If my season (and best chance at a title) is on the line, not sure I'd be settling for 18-footers with 15 seconds left on the shot clock. Turns out that all the worst things we thought about Carter as a player are probably true.

OK, so Mike McGwire and Sammy Sooser didn't turn out to be men of virtue. It hurts, I understand. But at least we'll always have Jason Varitek splitting the uprights. An ionic moment such as that one will be in our hearts and minds forever.  Ah, Mumbles.
