About Kirk Minihane

Kirk Minihane thinks "Slap Shot" is -- without argument -- the best sports movie ever made and is also convinced the 1985-86 Celtics would have finished with a record of 78-4 if they had cared about the regular season. He has been a columnist at WEEI.com since 2009 and is the co-host of "Sports Saturday" on WEEI.

One man's Week 5 NFL picks, made while trying to figure out why Randy Moss isn't still in New England. According to Bill Belichick, the trade "wasn't about contract or money."

Ten Thoughts a day after the trade that shook the NFL and caused some Foxboro fans to ask the toughest question of all: What to do with a

Report Card Time and I think this idea that Bill Belichick's pregame speech was the difference on Monday night is great if you are either 11 years old or couldn't think of a better angle to write about after the game.
Kirk Minihane
10/05/2010 - 2:28am
Week 4 Stock Watch, and If I had told you before the start of Monday night's Pats-Dolphins game that Randy Moss would have zero catches, Chad Henne would nearly double Tom Brady in passing yards (302-153) and the Dolphins would have more

One man's Week 4 NFL picks (and there isn't an NFC West coach out there who wouldn't sign for 8-8, my record last week) … -- GREEN BAY (+14.5) over Detroit

Mailbag time and it's more grief for the man Formerly Known as The Genius and his merry band of defensive players.

09/28/2010 - 6:00am
Report Card time and it's becoming clear that this team is going to go as far as Tom Brady can take it. Forget the salad days of 2003 and 2004, with the offense and defense as equal partners in the road to glory.
Kirk Minihane
09/23/2010 - 11:49pm
Here come the Week 3 picks, and I'm just trying to get back to .500. Not a great Week 2 (6-9-1) and since Week 1 was my bye I stand three games under for the season as we head into this weekend. Somewhere Stu Feiner is shaking his head in disgust. So let the march to mediocrity begin. Here are the picks (home team in caps) … -- Cincinnati (-3) over CAROLINA

Mailbag time and the people think Bill Belichick is not doing enough by doing too much. Plenty of love songs penned for Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel in the 'bag this week, "Almost Paradise" style. And I never knew how much the folks missed Eric Mangini until I read some of these emails.

Report Card time and it's going to get ugly after last week's written lap dance.

Here's one man's Week 2 NFL picks ... -- Pittsburgh at Tennessee (-5)

Back to the bag.  It's been a while, but Patriots season means you'll be getting another weekly installment of the Minihane mailbag. Unless no one reads the stuff, then I'll just stick to writing report cards and trying to find more ideas for top 10 lists. The choice is yours.
Kirk Minihane
09/14/2010 - 12:59am
Report card time and for Week 1 it's hard to do anything but act like a sleazy professor in a college sports movie and hand out "A's" and "B's" without a pause.
Kirk Minihane
09/12/2010 - 9:12pm
I've always been in the Randy Moss camp ever since he joined the Patriots in 2007. I think the idea that he doesn't play each and every snap with the intensity of a wronged character in a Dumas novel is way, way overblown.

Season finale of "Hard Knocks" and HBO is promising a twist ending. As a TV junkie I've been trying to figure out what it is. My best guess? Either it ends with an autistic Eric Mangini shaking a snow globe or with Antonio Cromartie waking up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette. I'll be OK with either one. To the finale we go ...

One man's "Hard Knocks" diary, admittedly written while wondering if the Celtics-Heat rivalry can get any better after the Delonte addition. The only the way the Heat can respond is by signing Brandon Spikes. 10:02 p.m.: Previously on Hard Knocks: Mike Westhoff says a bunch of stuff that sounds cool when he does it, but not so much when I give it a try. Alone. On a Saturday night.

When the obituary of the 2010 Red Sox season is written -- and we are getting really close to putting it in ink -- you'll hear plenty about injuries.

One man's "Hard Knocks" diary while wondering what Tom Brady does watch from 10-11 on Wednesday nights. I'm guessing either "Teen Mom" or "Alan Alda's Scientific American Frontiers." To the diary we go ...

Almost ready for a Week 2 "Hard Knocks" diary?  Just one thing before we can get started. (Pause as we wait for a blessing from Saint Tony Dungy. Got it. Thanks, coach. We'll keep it no worse than PG-13 here.) Here we go ...

So Clay Buchholz is now 14-5 with a league-leading 2.36 ERA. Seven more shutout innings on Tuesday for the Artist Formerly Known as The Guy Who Might Get Us Adrian Gonzalez, just another brilliant outing in a second half that has seen Buchholz go 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA.
