About Kirk Minihane

Kirk Minihane thinks "Slap Shot" is -- without argument -- the best sports movie ever made and is also convinced the 1985-86 Celtics would have finished with a record of 78-4 if they had cared about the regular season. He has been a columnist at WEEI.com since 2009 and is the co-host of "Sports Saturday" on WEEI.

Report Card time and I'm still not sure what he would have done. Bill Belichick, I mean. Let's just say that Tom Brady's incomplete pass to Wes Welker on third-and-7 with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter had in fact been completed and turned into a five-yard gain.

First: On Sunday Peyton Manning was as close to great as you can be without actually being great. I know, I know -- he didn't get it done when it mattered, he had three interceptions, all that matters is the final score. All true, I suppose.

One man's Week 11 NFL picks (note: I took Miami (PK) over Chicago in the Thursday night game) …  -- Cleveland (+1.5) over JACKSONVILLE

Mailbag time, and even after admitting that I'm a moron and done trying to figure out the Patriots after watching them put on a nationally televised clinic in Pittsburgh in a 39-26 win (a game I was absolutely convinced they would lose by a couple of touchdowns) some folks still won't let up on me.
Kirk Minihane
11/16/2010 - 7:16am
Report Card time and a shocking return to the written lap dance.  How can it not be? Simply a dominant performance on Sunday night (I'm still stunned), and the grades have to reflect that. So the red pen goes on hiatus and everyone gets the "GREAT JOB!" sticker.  To the card we go … -- QUARTERBACK -- A

If you want insight of any value when it comes to the 2010 New England Patriots I would suggest that you stop reading and look somewhere else. I know nothing. And when I mean nothing, I mean nothing. I just had to do a spell check on "Brady." Wait, Belichick cuts his sweatshirt? Basically I'm as clueless as Andrea Kramer during her halftime update Sunday night.

11/11/2010 - 9:06pm
One man's Week 10 NFL picks (note: I took Atlanta (-1) over Baltimore on Thursday night) … TAMPA BAY (-6.5) over Carolina
Kirk Minihane
11/11/2010 - 2:47am
Mailbag time and it seems that some people can't live with the idea that Tom Brady might not be perfect. You try and be honest about one stinker and suddenly you are attracted to Peyton Manning and people are calling you a "triple assclown."
Kirk Minihane
11/08/2010 - 9:41pm
Report Card time and I think we've heard and read enough about Tom Brady's body language and yelling on the sidelines and the press conference after the game Sunday. Who cares? Brady was pissed and frustrated and acted exactly like he did when things didn't go well in 2003 and 2005 or last year or his junior year at San Mateo.

Mailbag time and this is the end of all things Moss . . . or at least until the Titans come to town for the AFC Championship.
Kirk Minihane
11/02/2010 - 6:16am
Report Card time but first a thought on the end of the Randy Moss era in Minnesota, which started during the first round of the MLB playoffs and didn't quite make it to the end of the World Series.

I don't know how many more times I'm going to be up here in New England, but I'm going to leave the New England Patriots and Coach Belichick with a salute. I love you guys, I miss you. I'm out.

One man's Week 8 NFL picks, made while basking in the sweet glow of an 8-6 record last week. Come on, you can smell an 11-2 week, right? The stars are aligned, it just seems right. I only wish I could have done it while Tom Bosley was alive. To the picks we go ... -- DALLAS (-6) over Jacksonville

Mailbag Time and folks still aren't ready to punt when presented with a chance to talk about the fourth-and-1 (Get it?) failure in San Diego.  So we'll put the finishing touches on that, take a look at how I screwed up the report card, figure out if Bill Belichick is now a genius again, count the numbers of ways people have told me I suck and get an answer on when a spoiler is no longer a spoiler.

Are you ready for one man's diary of THE MOST ANTICIPATED NBA SEASON OPENER OF ALL TIME? Quick, name me another NBA season opener that was anticipated at all. Doesn't matter, this is LeBron and Wade and Shaq and Craig Sager and who cares if this game has a shelf life of about 12 hours?

It's Report Card Time, and the defense was the story for the Patriots in the 23-20 OT win over the Ravens Sunday, as satisfying a regular-season game since the victory over the Giants that capped the 16-0 season in 2007.

FOXBORO -- Watching the fourth quarter and overtime at Gillette Stadium Sunday, one was tempted to ask the question: Was Deion Branch ever gone?

Week 6 picks and it's really not going well. Nine games under .500 for the season? Back-to-back 5-9 weeks? Losing my first Lock of the Week? It's falling apart -- I feel like Henry Hill in the third act of "Goodfellas." Whenever I get ready to make a pick I look out the window and see helicopters.

One man's account of the start of the Favre/Moss era AND the start of a new-found respect for ESPN. OK, maybe just the start of the Favre/Moss era. 9:15 p.m.: And after a 45-minute weather delay we have a kickoff. Good thing, because the announce crew was getting a little loopy trying to kill time. Look at this exchange at 8:56 p.m.: Mike Tirico: Coach Gruden, you spent three years in Green Bay with Brett in the early 90s. I know it's been nearly 20 years  --

Dale Arnold and DJ Bean Discuss Claude vs Tortorella, Tyler Seguin and more About Bruins/Rangers

Dale and DJ get into the two coaches and their polar opposite styles and demeanor. Both teams play a similar style, but the coaches certainly convey their messages in a different way. Dale isn't buying the Tortorella hype and thinks he's a little overrated. DJ thinks he's a good coach, but isn't a fan of anti-media stance. The guys also talk about Jagr and how he has not lived up to the hype. They weren't expecting him to light it up or be the savior, but DJ says he wasn't prepared for just how slow the aging veteran is. Another big topic for B's fans this season is the play of Tyler Seguin and why he has yet to become the superstar everyone anticipates he will be. This leads to Claude Julien's style and if he does actually have something against the younger players. That Iginla trade shows its ugly head again as well.
