About Kirk Minihane

Kirk Minihane thinks "Slap Shot" is -- without argument -- the best sports movie ever made and is also convinced the 1985-86 Celtics would have finished with a record of 78-4 if they had cared about the regular season. He has been a columnist at WEEI.com since 2009 and is now part of The Dennis & Callahan Show.

And now we're back in the tall grass with David Ortiz and his never-ending quest for respect and another contract. A return to the weeds.
Kirk Minihane
01/23/2014 - 1:29am
Now that we are 90 or so hours removed from Broncos 26, Patriots 16, it seems temperatures have cooled enough to allow a somewhat measured (and, really, who can't get enough measured opinion about sports?) look at the two criticisms being tossed at

I thought it would be best while temperatures were running a little high not to weigh in on the "Is David Ortiz a Hall of Famer?" debate.

I'm a non-believer.
Kirk Minihane
09/13/2013 - 10:27am
Koji Uehara is having the best season ever produced by a Red Sox relief pitcher. And at $4.25 million, you could easily make the case this is the best free agent contract in franchise history.

Full disclosure: I'm on the Dennis & Callahan show every day from 6-10 a.m., though regrettably it still remains in an undefined position.

"Whether you like me or hate me, what’s wrong is wrong. It was unprofessional and silly, and kind of a silly way to get someone hurt on your team as well." -- Alex Rodriguez

"The City of Boston and the surrounding communities have faced many challenges since the bombings at the marathon finish line. The new cover of Rolling Stone has garnered much attention due to its sensationalized depiction of one of the alleged bombers. My family and I were personally affected by these individuals’ actions.

07/09/2013 - 12:06am
For the last couple of weeks, there have been people out there who wanted Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick to explain things.

Odin Lloyd was killed in an industrial park, and Aaron Hernandez will very likely die in prison because of it.
Kirk Minihane

Doc wins. He's going to get what he wants. And what Doc Rivers -- lead vocalist in the band formerly known as Ubuntu -- desperately wants is to no longer coach the Boston Celtics.
Kirk Minihane
06/10/2013 - 9:18pm
Let us rid ourselves of any confusion: Tim Tebow will never be a successful NFL quarterback. His days of quarterbacking relevance, save for a fluky half season, ended when he left Urban Meyer and the SEC.

Ready to get lost in a wilderness of ifs?
Kirk Minihane
05/24/2013 - 5:59am
I can't figure out Jacoby Ellsbury.  That's not exactly right, actually. Turns out if you go to his baseball-reference page and simply cross out 2011, you'll get closer to consistency, closer to the answer.
Kirk Minihane
05/15/2013 - 10:31pm
It would be one thing if Doc Emrick were your play-by-play man for Game 1 of Bruins-Rangers on Thursday night.

The Celtics are going to do this.
Kirk Minihane
04/26/2013 - 11:18am
The use of the word "courage" has been used, shall we say, quite liberally over the last couple of years.

Walk me through this.
Kirk Minihane
04/18/2013 - 10:52pm
Where do we go from here?  That's the question, right? It will never be the same in Boston after what happened on Monday afternoon, that's what we've read and heard over the last three days.
