After covering the 2008 NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans for Hoopsworld, I was excited to cover the festivities again this year. But what was supposed to be a quick flight to Dallas turned into a 22-hour journey that had too many twists and turns not to share. Thursday, Feb. 11

DALLAS — All-Star Weekend is viewed by many players as friendly competition. Yet for Kevin Garnett, it still was very much a game that he wanted to win. After the East defeated the West on Sunday night, Garnett’s teammates revealed the impact he made on the squad.

DALLAS – You could hear Paul Pierce coming from down the hallway. He strutted into the interview room clutching his newest piece of hardware and sporting a smile from ear-to-ear. “I came to win!” he proclaimed with a laugh.

The Celtics should have known you can’t read into a record.

Add Paul Pierce’s strained left foot to a laundry list of injuries faced by the Celtics this season. The C’s have been battling broken bones, sprains, surgeries, and soreness since the start of the season. Tony Allen, Glen Davis, Brian Scalabrine and Bill Walker began the season on the sidelines. And the injuries extended beyond the bench — Kevin Garnett was still working his way back on to the court after undergoing knee surgery last year.

First, the good news for Celtics fans — the C’s snapped a three-game skid with a 99-88 win over the Wizards Monday night in Washington, D.C. Now, the better news — Paul Pierce expects to be OK.

For all intents and purposes, it was a preseason game with little significance. The Celtics were fresh off their 17th NBA championship and were taking on the Rockets in New Hampshire. It was one of those nights when J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker were likely to play more minutes than Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Yet, Paul Pierce was pumped up.

Paul Pierce scored a season-high 35 points, yet the most memorable play of the game was the shot he could not stop.

Baron Davis wouldn’t have his way this time.

“We didn't finish the game like we were supposed to.” – Glen Davis, January 8, following Celtics 93-85 loss to Hawks   “We played mostly in spurts tonight.” – Paul Pierce, January 14, after 96-83 defeat to Bulls

On Monday night, the Celtics celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the TD Garden. Bill Walker addressed the crowd with a pregame tribute, the Celtics aired commemorative videos from former NBA players during timeouts and Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Shelden Williams and J.R. Giddens wore gray Nike sneakers in honor of the holiday.

The Celtics locker room was quiet. Many of the players already had left, silently filing out without any expression on their faces. Yet they didn't have to say anything. Doc Rivers summed it up in just one sentence.

For all of you who have been booing Mike Bibby for the past two seasons, don't worry — he's heard you. The thing is, he wouldn't have been able to have a 12-year career in the NBA if he succumbed to every jeer thrown his way.

Plain and simple, the Celtics have the Raptors’ number.   The C’s continued their domination with a 114-107 victory on Sunday in Toronto. (Recap.)   The Celtics have won seven straight against the Raptors and have not lost to them since January 23, 2008.

Paul Pierce, welcome back. Rajon Rondo, it's like you never left.

A brown suit hung in Paul Pierce's locker.   It may not have been a green and white uniform like the ones hanging his teammates' lockers, but it represented his role on the Celtics just the same.

There was obvious concern before the game.

One free throw would have given the Celtics an advantage. Two likely would have ensured overtime. But Rajon Rondo missed both.

For many of the Celtics growing up, December 25 was just as much about basketball as it was about gifts and Santa Claus. That is because Christmas Day in the NBA is like Thanksgiving Day in the NFL. It is a day when only a select group of teams are chosen to play in front of thousands of fans who are watching during their festivities. Families take breaks from opening presents and eating their holiday meals to catch match-ups between the hottest players in the league.

BOSTON – The Celtics may be struggling on Fridays this season, but they’ve rebounded in time to show their Sunday best.   After losing their fourth Friday night game, the C’s improved to 4-0 on Sundays with a 122-104 victory over the Timberwolves. (Recap.)

One word spoke volumes about a man who could talk for days. It was a slip of the tongue that came after a game in late November. The word was quickly clarified, but one small pronoun left a lasting impression.

The Celtics made a pit stop in Boston on Tuesday night in between road trips, and stayed just long enough to recover from a struggling performance on the boards and pull away in the fourth with a 98-89 win over the Bucks (check out the full game recap here). Led by Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo, the Celtics forced six turnovers in the final 12 minutes and shot nearly 56 percent to leave the young Bucks watching the close game slip from their grasp.

For years, San Antonio was a dreaded location for the Celtics. They simply could not win there.
