The Bruins shouldn’t be here.  And it's not a “these guys got some lucky bounces and the other team should have won” type thing. They actually shouldn’t be here.  Not only are they here, but they’re now the best team in hockey. At this point, how could anyone disagree with that?

Until next year, Merlot Line.

If the Bruins had to give a 48-game pitch as to why you should watch them, root for them, believe in them, etc., it probably would be underwhelming. If they had to give a 95-minute, 19-second pitch, that’s a different story.

The series is young. Don’t forget it.

PITTSBURGH -– Turns out the Penguins are kind of a mess. Who knew?

"We hated them so much. We really did. Just so cocky. And we prevailed. We kept on working. It was just everything about them -- the diving, hitting [Nathan Horton], the whining in the papers. But you know, we took it, we went with it ... stuck to our game, played our game, and won it."

PITTSBURGH -- By now you’ve probably heard the underdog talk from the Bruins, and even if it’s just gamesmanship, they’re not saying anything that isn’t true.

PITTSBURGH – Tyler Seguin didn’t play in the first two rounds of the 2011 postseason before coming alive in the Eastern Conference finals, and the Bruins have to hope history will repeat itself. It has so far, as there hasn’t been that much proof that Seguin has played the first two rounds this year.

Scenario one: You’ve made it to the Eastern Conference finals having played big postseason minutes as a rookie. You’re playing against the team you grew up cheering for and are teammates with one of your hockey idols.  Scenario two: You’re not playing hockey right now and haven’t for a month.

"Deep" doesn't do the Penguins justice. They are absolutely loaded.

A day or two after the Bruins eliminated the Lightning to win the Eastern Conference two years ago, general manager Peter Chiarelli held a press conference.

NEW YORK -- If this is an overreaction, cool. It will be the first time anyone’s overreacted to something in sports ever.

So the Bruins’ next win will come in what, Game 6? It shouldn’t.
DJ Bean

NEW YORK -- You know how they say the best offense is a good defense?  That’s supposed to mean that having a strong defense is worth more to a team than scoring a bunch. Quieting the other team is more important than blowing them away -- something like that.

For all the flak we’ve given the Bruins for not taking advantage of opportunities, let’s take a look at the Rangers for a moment. It’s Game 1 on the road.

He’s the fourth-most experienced playoff defenseman the Bruins have right now, and he’s played 31 minutes and 31 seconds in the playoffs. He was supposed to be traded for Jarome Iginla -- and he knows it. Above all else, he’s actually a really important piece for the Bruins now. Watch out, folks, here comes Matt Bartkowski.

As the Maple Leafs held a 4-1 lead Monday night, you couldn’t help but feel good for them. That series against the Bruins was their Stanley Cup, and they were about to win it.

TORONTO -- It isn’t about eliminating the Leafs any more than it is staying alive now for the Bruins, as Toronto handed them a 2-1 loss in Game 6 Sunday to force a winner-take-all Game 7.
