Peter Chiarelli has a pretty simple plan of attack when it comes to re-signing his players: He targets those he finds important to the team’s future, and he generally gets extensions done well before some other team can vie for their services.

Here’s a prediction: the Bruins will lose a game in December. Maybe even in regulation.  The fact that such a prediction could be considered bold is proof of just how outstanding the Bruins’ month of November was.

Tim Thomas’ historic 2010-11 season was rewarded with a lot of hardware and recognition. From it came the Vezina, the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe trophy. Locally, he was on the cover of the Improper Bostonian, and nationally, he was one of three Bruins to go on The Today Show.

Chris Kelly is on pace for 34 goals, Rich Peverley has been a point-per-game player in November and Benoit Pouliot is finding his way while winning games in the process. Not bad for a third line.

There was no eulogy to be delivered after the Bruins saw their 10-game winning streak halted by the Red Wings Friday afternoon at TD Garden, and for good reason. Just because they didn’t get two points means they suddenly resemble the 3-7-0 Bruins of Nov. 1.
DJ Bean
11/24/2011 - 4:19am
The Bruins knew amidst their 3-7-0 start to the season that things needed to be turned around in November. Though a pretty accurate playoff picture generally takes shape by the first of November each year, the Bruins enter the next checkpoint, Thanksgiving, sitting much prettier than they were when they began the month dead last in the Eastern Conference.

Top-two pick to top scorer. Contributor to superstar. Occasional healthy scratch to occasionally earning upwards of 20 minutes a night and playing against top lines. Regardless of how one chooses to describe Tyler Seguin’s leap from his rookie year to his highly impressive sophomore campaign, the 19-year-old has shown that though his first year on the job featured flashes of brilliance, he has simply taken it to another level on his second try.

It’s OK Bruins fans, you can look at the standings again.  After weeks of getting every possible point they could and being the best team in the league this month, the Bruins are finally in the top eight in the Eastern Conference. Their eighth consecutive win, a 6-0 shutout of the Islanders Saturday night, helped them leapfrog the Senators and Capitols and jump into seventh in the conference.  If the fact that it took this long to get there isn’t proof that climbing out of a hole in this league is tremendously difficult, nothing is.

Tuukka Rask reads the news from his homeland of Finland every day, and when he went online Thursday, he was surprised at what he saw.  "I made news in Finland," Rask said Thursday. "Freaking crazy."

Normally, a team on a five-game winning streak might not get the urge to "respond" to that many things, but on Tuesday, Claude Julien got big responses from a guy he benched and a guy he'd scratched in the previous game. It ended up being the difference between victory and defeat.

Brad Marchand intercepted a puck from Tyler Myers in the neutral zone in the second period Saturday, and he was going to make the Sabres pay with his fifth goal of the season. As soon as he got that puck, the 23-year-old had one thing on his mind: shooting.

Brad Marchand has a way with words. He knows how to use them to his advantage when getting in opponents’ heads, and he knows which ones will get him in trouble with the referees. He’s everyone’s favorite smart aleck, but on Wednesday, it was Claude Julien who was poking fun at him, and using Marchand’s now famous guarantee of 20 goals last season to motivate the slumping forward.

Tyler Seguin walked to his stall in the home dressing room at TD Garden Wednesday, saw a group of reporters from both Boston and Edmonton waiting, and jokingly said he would not be answering questions about Taylor Hall. Even if he was serious, it would be hard to blame him.

It wasn’t a week ago that Nathan Horton was sitting at his stall at TD Garden, downtrodden amidst a quiet start to the season and revealing some interesting details of where he was mentally not right.

Will it be Jordan Caron or Benoit Pouliot in the lineup Saturday against the Maple Leafs? The latter is healthy and ready to return from his illness, but the former may have nabbed the job for himself for the time being.
DJ Bean
11/02/2011 - 6:51pm
It’s been a while since the happy-go-lucky Nathan Horton has been seen around Boston. He's still as friendly as ever, but the man whose smile could be seen from the Garden on days the B’s were practicing in Wilmington has swapped in his permanent grin for a more business-like demeanor, but his performance on the ice has not been business as usual.

The Bruins have broken their losing streak, but have they broken out of the mess that still has them at the bottom of the Eastern Conference?

“What would you expect me to do? It’s a coach trying to find solutions. It’s as simple as that. … If it doesn’t [work], I’m telling you right now, you’re going to see changes again.” -- Claude Julien, Oct. 28.

Ladies and gentlemen, your last place Boston Bruins.   It doesn’t matter how many games into the season we are -- it just doesn’t sound right.
DJ Bean
10/26/2011 - 10:18pm
If you’ve followed the Bruins, you know they’re better than this. And if you’ve followed the league, you know that regardless of what is causing the team’s subpar start to the season (3-5-0), history shows it has to end very soon.
DJ Bean
10/25/2011 - 6:51am
When the Bruins returned ninth overall pick Dougie Hamilton to the OHL in training camp, they were sending back a wiry but highly skilled defenseman who was 10 or more pounds away from being ready to potentially contribute at the NHL level.
DJ Bean
10/23/2011 - 12:20am
This certainly wasn’t the start anyone had envisioned.
DJ Bean
10/21/2011 - 1:40am
The season is young, but it’s safe to say the Bruins needed what they got Thursday night. What they got was a convincing win to follow a truly ugly loss Tuesday, and a win that saw their two underperforming power forwards get back on track.
DJ Bean
10/19/2011 - 12:50am
Nathan Horton has been a hero in Boston since his first of three game-winning goals in the playoffs during the spring’s Stanley Cup run, but a new season has bought a new batch of frustrations for the B’s first-line right wing.
DJ Bean
10/16/2011 - 1:58am
The Bruins were minutes away from their first 0-3-0 stretch since February on Saturday before they got renewed hope – both for the game in Chicago and the early part of their schedule – in one play.
