The Bruins said they were going to rest their best players. Nobody said it was going to be enjoyable, but it will all be over soon.  It seems the B’s haven’t enjoyed the not-quite-post-regular-season, pre-postseason part of their schedule and it’s hard to blame them; it’s boring.

The Bruins aren’t going for the Presidents' Trophy -- they haven’t all season -- and they’re probably going to get it.

Andrej Meszaros is good enough to play for a lot of teams, but he understands the chances of him being a seventh defenseman on a Stanley Cup favorite.

The Bruins have the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, so who’s No. 8? Though the potential opponents vary in degrees of difficulty, there really isn’t a first-round scenario that should scare them as long as they don’t suffer any injuries in the next four games. In other words, the Bruins can beat any of these teams.

Jarome Iginla got out of his comfort zone Wednesday night. He watched a game.

When Reilly Smith was leading the Bruins in goals in early January and on pace to push for a 30-goal season, general manager Peter Chiarelli -- the guy who knew better than others that Smith would be a very good NHL player -- cautioned that “half a season does not a player make.”

If you watched the telecast of Sunday’s game between the Bruins and Flyers, the seed has probably already been planted in your mind: Is Patrice Bergeron, who should win his second Selke Trophy this season, a legitimate candidate to win the Hart Trophy as the

Saturday should have solidified what everyone probably knew for a while: Jarome Iginla was a slam-dunk signing for Peter Chiarelli, and is someone the Bruins should have in their future plans.
DJ Bean

Zdeno Chara knows you’re worried about him.  He knows that the average Bruins fan's worst fear is seeing him play out these final nine games of the regular season hard. He knows that, much like when he had a tiny bed in Sochi, people are talking more about his rest than his play.

03/26/2014 - 11:24pm
As the regular season draws to a close, hockey writers must begin thinking about their ballots for the annual trophies that will be awarded to individual players. As usual, Bruins players should find themselves in the discussion.

Chad Johnson doesn't want to be a journeyman backup goaltender anymore -- at least not for a while.

The win streak is over, and just like any of those 12 games, we won’t get carried away with the 13th. It was a regular-season game. That the Bruins lost wasn’t a big deal.
DJ Bean
03/22/2014 - 12:31am
We aren't the type to get carried away with speculation, but since the Bruins won't close the door on Dennis Seidenberg possibly returning late in the postseason, neither will we.
DJ Bean
03/19/2014 - 12:13am
Peter Chiarelli had a busy offseason last summer, and by the looks of it, the Bruins appear to be in for a busy postseason.

On paper, the Bruins are playing their best hockey since their outrageous 21-2-1 run in November and December of 2011.  On paper.

03/15/2014 - 4:27pm
They're the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference, a legitimate contender for the President's Trophy (the only trophy in the league that should always followed by "Who cares?") and are picking up two points every time they take the ice.
DJ Bean
03/14/2014 - 12:20am
Dougie Hamilton is a good player who is having a good season.  He’s also a young player, a top-10 draft pick, a brainiac and a number of other things, but a frequently forgotten tidbit around these parts is that he’s a good player who is having a good season.

MONTREAL -- The Bruins believe they’re good enough to beat any team in the league, but it was nice to get an actual reminder that they can play a game against their biggest rivals without being held to one goal in a frustrating loss.

MONTREAL -- Bruins players were out to dinner in Florida Monday night when Twitter brought them the horrifying news: Former teammate Rich Peverley had collapsed on the bench in the Stars-Blue Jackets game and had to be defibrillated due to a cardiac episode.

You should know the story by now with the Bruins: Don’t get too carried away with the good or the bad in the regular season, as long as the personnel is right. That much was learned a season ago when they failed to win the division due to inconsistent play and marched to the Stanley Cup finals.
DJ Bean
03/06/2014 - 11:17pm
This story has been written before.  It's the "Things are starting to look up for Loui Eriksson" story. The one about him turning a corner and finally emerging as the player that looked to be the perfect top-six forward for the Bruins when they decided Tyler Seguin wasn't a fit.
DJ Bean
03/06/2014 - 12:54am
For the last two-plus months, all anyone could talk about regarding this Bruins team was that it needed at least another defenseman, and maybe two.
DJ Bean
03/05/2014 - 12:00am
The trade deadline is hours away, and given that Peter Chiarelli has yet to pull the trigger on a deal, you can expect a few interesting hours leading up to Wednesday at 3 p.m.
DJ Bean
03/03/2014 - 10:40pm
It's getting to crunch time as Wednesday's NHL trade deadline approaches. The Bruins are still looking for a defenseman, and fortunately for them, none of the top options have been dealt yet.
DJ Bean
03/01/2014 - 5:12pm
The Bruins’ back end has chosen a bad time to struggle.  With just a few days until the NHL’s trade deadline, Boston’s defense could use this time to prove to Peter Chiarelli that none of its players need to be upgraded and that nothing outside of a depth player or two will be required.
