The Bruins followed up an impressive come-from-behind victory in Pittsburgh by returning to the Garden in style, but unfortunately it was the same style fans have grown accustomed to in Boston over the last year. The B's struggled to get going throughout the night and dropped a 3-1 decision to the Canadiens.

The Bruins finally made their statement in Pittsburgh, and it didn't involve anybody touching Matt Cooke.

As Peter Chiarelli addressed the media on Monday regarding the status of David Krejci, who is out for at least a week with a concussion, it was clear as day that for a team that's off to such a hot start (7-3-1), the Bruins sure do have to give a lot of injury updates. Their top goal-scorer of a year ago, Marco Sturm, is still recovering from knee surgery.

There was one word on the minds of observers throughout Saturday night thanks to four pucks clanking off posts in the B's shootout loss to the Blues. Turns out it was on the Bruins' minds too.

When a team heads to the locker room trailing 3-0 with just nine shots on goal after two periods, it's hard to think that the eventual loss they'd be handed would be of the heartbreaking variety.  That's just the way it played out on Friday in the nation's capital, as the Bruins rode a goaltending switch and quick comeback to pull even with the Capitals less than 10 minutes into the third period.

Tim Thomas has done some remarkable things on the young season, but if there's one thing that he's shown, it is that his left hip is even more interesting than his goals against average. Thomas and the hip, which he had offseason surgery on, have emphatically silenced naysayers as he, at 7-0-0 on the season, has reached perhaps the highest level of play in his career after facing the ups and downs of the last two seasons.

The Bruins record books need some revising after Wednesday night.

Bruins winger Jordan Caron celebrated his 20th birthday on Tuesday and, fittingly, his ability to seize opportunity early in his NHL career has been a gift to the B's.

10/31/2010 - 12:38am
The Bruins are a perfect 4-0 on the road to open the season, and nobody is talking about it. The team's leading goal-scorer of a season ago admittedly had a setback in his recovery from knee surgery recently, and nobody is talking about it. The flavor even wore on the news that Tyler Seguin will not be returning to juniors.

The Bruins kicked off the first game of their season series with the Maple Leafs in style, with two of their top young forwards achieving milestones and Tim Thomas picking up his second shutout of the season.

As Claude Julien spoke of his team's first period play in a 3-2 loss on Saturday night (game recap), he wasn't saying anything the room didn't already know.

The Bruins gave the class of the Eastern Conference a nice punch in the mouth on Tuesday night in marching into DC and defeating the Capitals, 3-1.

In two games last weekend, the Bruins were just about as Jekyll and Hyde as it gets. With Saturday's game with the Devils the team's only match of the weekend, there was only room for the good Bruins to emerge in New Jersey.

The Bruins went into their European trip, which covered Belfast, Prague, Liberec, and an hour in Iceland, with just one thing in mind.

PRAGUE -- There Zdeno Chara and Peter Chiarelli sat, fielding questions in different languages and smiling through disappointment following the team's 5-2 season-opening loss as they discussed the defenseman's re-signing.

PRAGUE -- Having been overseas for just over a week now and with the Bruins' season a day away from beginning, it seemed as good a time as ever to bust out a mailbag (the name of it was not my idea). As was expected, there were a few very similar questions regarding Tyler Seguin and what to expect, so I just went with the first one I got.  For future mailbags, or for advice on hitting the Belfast or Prague areas in the future, send whatever you've got to djbean@weei.com.

PRAGUE -- Czech Republic native David Krejci has found ways to impress on different levels so far in his NHL career. On the ice, he's a rising star who at 24 years of age may be a year or two from his prime seasons. Off the ice, he's very articulate and insightful when it comes to hockey and different cultures.

When Bruins players took to Ristuccia Arena for voluntary captain's practice earlier in the month, so too did a young, yet experienced forward acquired in the offseason in a deal with the Panthers. He may have been meeting some of his teammates for the first time, but he made it out to the lot of the practices and seemed excited to be there. Nathan Horton was also in attendance.

It's tough to tell which installment of the "making sense of the Marc Savard situation" this may be, because quite frankly, there have been so many developments or rumors surrounding the center since the summer that one couldn't be blamed for losing count. Such is the nature with these things.

Rivalries tend to access a specially reserved palette of emotions for people all across sports. Players step up their games, referees face further scrutiny, and fans slash tires.

The opening of training camp means a renewed sense of optimism no matter which team is gearing up. From the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, to the owners of June's first overall draft pick in the Edmonton Oilers.

BOSTON -- There wasn't much for Bruins fans not to like as they got a glimpse at their team's future on Wednesday night. They got the scoring (Jordan Caron), the fighting (a few guys) and, perhaps the reason they packed the Garden, a good look at Tyler Seguin.

There was something in the air Saturday night at Fenway. The Red Sox were facing one of baseball's best offenses, and mowing down the fifth-best hitting team in the majors was John Lackey.
