Bruins captain Zdeno Chara has those who praise him, and he has his critics. In the case of the latter, some question his contract, while others wonder whether he's the right man to be wearing the "C" on his jersey.

Leave it to the Bruins and Flyers to make a 3-0 B's victory with Tim Thomas shutouts the most boring game between the squads this season.
DJ Bean
01/12/2011 - 3:17am
Things got messy at TD Garden on Tuesday. Yes, the Bruins blew out the Senators with a 6-0 victory (recap), but the place was literally a mess given the two showers of hats for Patrice Bergeron.
DJ Bean
01/11/2011 - 7:13am
The Bruins ended the first half of the season on a remarkable note when they scored four goals in the final 3:23 of regulation to beat the Penguins, 4-2. There may not be a better way of begging for a last-second grade inflation on a hockey scribe's report card.
DJ Bean
01/09/2011 - 2:13am
What didn't Saturday night's game between the Bruins and Canadiens, a 3-2 overtime win for the Habs (recap), feature? It had Habs' two-goal comeback in the final 2:22 of regulation. It featured the near-empty-netter that just missed sealing it for the Bruins by a matter of inches.
DJ Bean
01/07/2011 - 2:29am
The Bruins suffered another power outage on Thursday in their 3-1 loss to the Wild on Thursday (recap). While the rival Canadiens were gaining ground in the standings with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Penguins, the B's floundered offensively and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
DJ Bean
01/04/2011 - 1:39am
There was no question over who stole the show when Tuukka Rask led the Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the Maple Leafs Monday night in Toronto (recap). Rask made 36 saves and shut the Leafs down in a hectic third period in a performance the B's needed just as badly as he did.
DJ Bean
01/02/2011 - 1:23am
Tim Thomas didn't end up getting the day off after all. Claude Julien inserted the early Vezina favorite into Saturday's game to start the second period, and the 36-year-old took a shootout loss as the Bruins fell, 7-6, to the Sabres (recap).
DJ Bean
12/31/2010 - 2:58am
If you think Thursday night's 3-2 shootout victory for the Thrashers over the Bruins (recap) a letdown, you are mistaken. No, it wasn't lopsided in the fashion that either of the teams' two previous meetings were, but it was one of the hardest games the Bruins have played this season.
DJ Bean
12/29/2010 - 1:51am
The Bruins seem to have a full head of steam at the right time. After Mark Recchi delivered the game-winner with 19.7 seconds remaining in regulation to give the B's a 4-3 win over the Lightning on Tuesday (recap), the B's have won three straight since their ugly 3-0 loss to the Ducks last Monday.
DJ Bean
12/28/2010 - 1:15am
The Bruins technically never led in Monday's 3-2 shootout victory over the Panthers (recap), but they got what they needed from the contest: two points and sudden bragging rights around the Northeast division.
DJ Bean
12/22/2010 - 3:56am
On Oct. 8, Mark Recchi sat and unlaced his skates in a small Czech Republic locker room as he both wrapped up his final practice of the preseason calendar and looked ahead to the regular season. He talked about what season-openers mean to a team, how many he's been through, and shared other stories that only someone with his experience could tell.
DJ Bean
12/21/2010 - 3:09am
Teams struggle for odd reasons, and often times they can't put their finger on what ails them. Unfortunately for the Bruins after their 3-0 loss to the Ducks on Monday (recap), the diagnosis is quite simple: They lack emotion.  And it's really, really obvious.
DJ Bean
12/19/2010 - 12:45am
Though the end got a bit scary for the Bruins in their 3-2 victory over the Capitals on Saturday (recap), the win accomplished two things. It snapped their three-game losing streak and it put one of the tougher teams in the division (usually, anyway) out of their heads for the rest of the regular season.
DJ Bean

Thursday night's game, a 4-3 Bruins' loss (recap) to Montreal, featured just about everything it could have, including more goals than one would have expected in a contest started by Tim Thomas and Carey Price.  Thomas allowed four goals for just the second time this season and took his first road loss in regulation, while Price allowed three in picking up his league-leading 18th win of the season.
DJ Bean
12/16/2010 - 1:53am
Penalties and a Drew Stafford hat trick did the Bruins in as they fell to the Sabres, 3-2, on Wednesday (recap), but the more significant big-picture story was that the game marked the first time Tyler Seguin was a healthy scratch.
DJ Bean
12/12/2010 - 2:43am
The Bruins and Flyers came within three seconds of a shootout on Saturday night, but Mike Richards ended it with a 2-1 Philadelphia win before it could come to that.  The Flyers got the overtime victory off a Marc Savard pass to nobody at the point, and Richards gained possession, kept it the whole way, and beat Thomas.
DJ Bean
12/10/2010 - 12:55am
Milan Lucic added two more goals to his team-leading total in the Bruins' 5-2 victory over the Islanders on Thursday night. He now has 15 on the season, and continues to make his preseason hope for 20 goals look like the underestimation of the century.
DJ Bean
12/08/2010 - 3:00am
Tim Thomas called it a "weird game," as the Bruins defeated the Sabres, 3-2, in overtime on Tuesday.   The Bruins struggled to capitalize on offensive opportunities at times in regulation, but they scored when it mattered most, as Mark Recchi tipped a Dennis Seidenberg shot past Ryan Miller with the Bruins on the power play in overtime. Yet the puck bounced in and out quickly, perhaps as a result of hitting the crossbar, and play continued with no goal being called.
DJ Bean
12/03/2010 - 3:40am
The Bruins rocked the Lightning to the tune of an 8-1 victory at TD Garden on Tuesday night. Twelve Bruins ended up on the score sheet, and Tim Thomas made 37 saves on 38 shots to improve to 13-2-1 on the season.
DJ Bean
12/02/2010 - 1:25am
The Bruins didn't have the fondest memories of Philadelphia as they entered Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night. Thought they couldn't erase what happened last May, a shutout victory over one of the Eastern Conference's top teams had to have been the best salve they could have hoped for.
DJ Bean
11/30/2010 - 12:44am
The Bruins have it bad enough right now without being reminded of how bad it was last May.  Yet on Wednesday, the B's, currently in the midst of a 5-6-2 slump, will have the chance to turn last season's devastation -- a blown three-games-to-none series lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals against Flyers -- into a motivating factor when they head to Philadelphia for the first time since Game 6.
DJ Bean
11/29/2010 - 11:14pm
On Monday, the Bruins traded defenseman Matt Hunwick to the Avalanche in exchange for former Boston University defenseman Colby Cohen. Hunwick, 25, was in his fourth season with the B's. He had three points and a plus-4 rating through 22 games. Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said the deal had been in the works for some time, and the trigger was pulled on Monday.

Every offseason is full uncertainty. Of course, the summer is also the time that everyone, from the fans to the media and everyone in between, looks at what the coming season may hold. It's no surprise that once the games are played, just about everybody gets proven wrong in some, way shape or form. Injuries, sleepers and letdowns happen, and it's impossible to always see each one coming.
