When the owners all but guaranteed a lockout with their joke of a CBA proposal this summer, I was asked the same question by pretty much everyone I spoke to outside of work: "How long do you think it’s going to last?"

If you’re overlooking this week’s matchup between the Patriots and Jaguars, you’re probably doing so for good reason.

To the surprise of whoever was surprised, Wednesday’s collective bargaining agreement negotiations ended without any progress. That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be reason for optimism.

The league and the players are set to meet on Wednesday as the NHL tries to save its season.

When (all right, “if”) this lockout ever gets settled, how will Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs’ work over the last few months affect his team going forward?
DJ Bean
12/07/2012 - 3:05am
“I'm really optimistic that we're going to get this settled. They’ve had some good talks there, and it looks like it’s moving in the right direction. I’m really optimistic and hopeful that we’re going to play hockey this season.”

Tom Brady is in the process of statistically mimicking his MVP season of 2010, but does that mean he should expect to win the league's top honor for the third time in his illustrious career? With five games to play, the MVP race is shaping up to be an interesting one.

The NHL lockout hasn’t been good for anybody. It especially hasn’t been good for a fighter in his mid-30s who can’t find a job in Europe and knows he only has a few years left to get paid.
DJ Bean
11/19/2012 - 3:34pm
The Patriots had an embarrassment of riches at tight end, just like they had a Pro Bowler with a healthy right ankle and an All-Pro with a good left forearm.

It took just one dreadful year for the Colts to put themselves in position to have decades of elite quarterback play.

Sammy Morris wants to make it big. Again.
DJ Bean
10/26/2012 - 5:42pm
Well, so much for optimism. After a couple of weeks of Ross-and-Rachel-esque “will they, won’t they?” the NHL spoke for both sides Friday and gave the answer fans were probably expecting at this point: They might, and if they do, it won’t be for a while.
DJ Bean
10/22/2012 - 2:47pm
Last week, for a time at least, it seemed like hockey was on its way back. As we near the one-week anniversary of the day the owners appeared to extend a real offer for a new CBA that could save a full 82-game season, the outlook isn’t that promising or clear.

Forgive the lack of details, but here’s an anecdote: After a Bruins home game, Tyler Seguin was busting Shawn Thornton’s chops because he had set the enforcer up for a scoring opportunity but Thornton blew it.

BOLTON – As Tuukka Rask fielded questions prior to the Bruins’ annual golf tournament Monday, a reporter asked when he thought the season might start.

It's common for negotiations to go down to the last minute. With 10 days to go until the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement expires, both commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA executive Donald Fehr have their arms crossed and haven't sat at the negotiating table since Friday.
DJ Bean
08/19/2012 - 4:35pm
When it comes to negotiations regarding a collective bargaining agreement -- and over the last two years, sports fans have had to deal with plenty of them, thanks to the NFL and NBA -- it's understandable the average fan doesn't have a major interest in the nuts and bolts of the whole thing.
DJ Bean
08/08/2012 - 6:21pm
Forget the Steven Stamkos comparisons for now. When it comes to Tyler Seguin’s future, you want to look at Jeff Skinner.

MIDDLETON – If roster turnover is healthy, would that make a lack of turnover unhealthy?
DJ Bean
07/24/2012 - 6:15pm
Call it complacent, call it too comfortable or call it unheard of in today's day and age. The Bruins could -- and very well may -- enter the season without a single veteran pickup. GM Peter Chiarelli likes what he has, and assuming he wasn't throwing the media for a loop on Tuesday, that's the way it's going to be.
DJ Bean
07/19/2012 - 4:26pm
When will Daniel Paille have an offseason? He may have one every year, but Paille’s certainly kept busy in each of the last two summers. The last offseason was jubilation, and this one could be doom and gloom.
DJ Bean
07/16/2012 - 9:59am
With the collective bargaining agreement set to expire on Sept. 15, the talks between the owners and the NHLPA (led by Donald Fehr), could be lengthy. The owners decided to open with a joke.
