PHILADELPHIA -- In a nutshell, goaltending-wise, the Bruins have it made. They have this season's best goaltender, and just in case anything might happen to Tim Thomas, they have last season's best goaltender in Tuukka Rask.

04/30/2011 - 8:59pm
PHILADELPHIA – There was a feeling around Boston that if the Bruins wanted to get past the Flyers this time around, they would need to bring more than they brought against the Canadiens in the first round. They couldn’t fall behind early on in games. They had to score a power play goal (some were more realistic than others) and they had to have more than just one or two lines operating from game to game.

What is the word Boston is looking for as the Bruins head to Philadelphia for the Eastern Conference semifinals? Is it “poetic,” or something along those lines? Perhaps it’s “fate.” Maybe it’s just that deep breath that can only say “here we go again.”

Maybe Andrew Ference was right. History is for dorks.

MONTREAL — As the final seconds ticked off the clock at 9:40 p.m. in Montreal Tuesday night, a different countdown began. While the clock at Bell Centre read 00:00, a clock of about 21 hours and 40 minutes started for one team’s last game of the season.

You know, the Bruins have won four in a row before.
DJ Bean
04/24/2011 - 9:42am
So much has been made of big starts for in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals series between the Bruins and Canadiens. In Games 1, 2 and 4, the Habs came out strong, with the Bruins not matching the early effort and falling behind. In Game 3, it was the Bruins who stepped it up while the Canadiens weren't up to speed.
DJ Bean
04/22/2011 - 7:48am
MONTREAL -- It was 3-1, and boy, did it sure seem like it would become 3-1. With the Habs leading by a pair of goals in the second period of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, it seemed they were just another rope-a-dope display away from grabbing the victory and having a 3-1 stranglehold on the series. They had absolutely dominated the B's for the first 27 minutes of the game. In fact, when it was a 1-1 tie following Michael Ryder's first goal early on in the second period, the scoreboard was a poor indicator of how the two teams were playing.

04/19/2011 - 1:14am
MONTREAL -- Go crazy, folks, as you can now take your pens to your schedules and emphatically cross out that "if necessary" next to Game 5. It came a few days later than anticipated, but the Bruins finally got their first win of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, defeating the hated Habs by a 4-2 score Monday night (recap) and winning at the Bell Centre for the first time since Feb. 7, 2010.

MONTREAL — Through the first two games of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, the goals clearly have not come in bulk for the Bruins.
DJ Bean
04/17/2011 - 2:13am
If the Bruins weren’t worried before, they should be now.  The bigger, tougher, higher-scoring team with the best goalie in the world is two losses away from the backlash and disappointment that we all know will eventually just turn into hype for the No. 9 pick in June.
DJ Bean
04/15/2011 - 1:42am
First goal wins. That was the name of the game Thursday.

WILMINGTON -- Tim Thomas is charged with the tall task of playing just as well in the playoffs as he did in the regular season. Given that he set the NHL save percentage record at .938 this season, all eyes will be on the Boston netminder to see how far he can bring the B's.
DJ Bean
04/12/2011 - 10:34pm
The Bruins seem to be the popular pick to win their first-round series against the Canadiens, which is set to begin Thursday night at TD Garden. On paper, one could see why the B’s might hold the advantage. While the Habs held the 2-4-0 advantage in the season series, many are tossing that mark aside. After all, it came in the regular season, and this is the playoffs.
DJ Bean
04/11/2011 - 2:24am
The regular season is in the books, and the Canadiens are coming to town. As the Bruins use Monday to catch their breath from the regular season before preparing for the playoffs, so too shall we. Here are five things we learned from the regular season.
DJ Bean
04/09/2011 - 11:47pm
The Bruins’ motto for the playoffs should be a simple one, at least in the first round: Don’t overlook a team that was better against you in the regular season.  It seems that if you rolled a die to determine the Bruins’ first-round playoff opponent, you would find the Club de Hockey logo on most of the sides. After a couple weeks of uncertainty as to who the B’s might face in the opening round, the oh-so-predictable answer was provided Saturday night. It’s the Canadiens.  Again.
DJ Bean
04/08/2011 - 4:41pm
WILMINGTON -- Even after the pretty-bad-at-best sounds of 3 Doors Down were turned down, there was still some sort of music in the Bruins’ dressing room Friday at Ristuccia Arena. It wasn’t singing, as resident front-man Mark Stuart was dealt away nearly two months ago. It wasn’t even one of the younger players “spitting” a favorite rap verse.
DJ Bean
04/06/2011 - 11:48pm
He’s the center of attention. A first-round pick, his skating might be his biggest advantage out on the ice. He’s been in and out of the lineup, but one had to figure that once he picked up his play, he could play a role for the Bruins in the playoffs. Now he has picked up his play, and he can count on seeing time in the postseason.   Just to clear up any confusion, this is not about Tyler Seguin.
DJ Bean
04/05/2011 - 6:06pm
WILMINGTON -- On the ice, Tim Thomas is known for being all over the place. Relying on world-class reflexes rather than any conventional method between the pipes, Thomas lives and dies by a wild style.
DJ Bean
04/05/2011 - 12:40am
There the Bruins were, sitting on a cool 3-0 lead halfway through Monday night’s contest at Madison Square Garden, and on the way was most certainly another column about playoff matchups and the Bruins needing to keep pushing until both the Flyers and Capitals were looking up at them in the standings. The B’s were getting shots on Henrik Lundqvist.
DJ Bean
04/02/2011 - 5:37pm
[Updated: 11:00 p.m.] If the those on hand for Saturday’s matinee between the Bruins and Thrashers didn’t appear to be on the edge of their seats at the Garden, it’s because they weren’t.
DJ Bean
03/31/2011 - 11:29pm
Enough games have been played to properly summarize Brad Marchand in his rookie season: He plays scrappy, he kills penalties and he talks. A lot. It’s a desirable skillset for a player like Marchand, whose combination of skill and the ability to bug teams just enough to draw penalties landed him on the second line as a rookie.
DJ Bean
03/30/2011 - 2:10am
The final games of the regular season are about a few different things for a team gearing up for the playoffs. To the naked eye, the most obvious thing that stands out is that the Bruins are within three points of the Capitals for the second seed in the Eastern Conference. With a game in hand, playing for the second spot is enough to keep the B’s motivated to finish the regular season strong.
DJ Bean
03/28/2011 - 3:37am
The Bruins clinched a playoff spot Sunday, and the news barely moved the needle. That's the way it should be.
DJ Bean
03/26/2011 - 4:55pm
Trap games can usually be seen coming from a mile away. Some thought Saturday could be such a contest, but with the Bruins’ stretch of three Eastern Conference playoff teams in four nights, one would think would be no room for a trap game.
