It’s been quite the rookie season for Dougie Hamilton.

For all the flak we’ve given the Bruins for not taking advantage of opportunities, let’s take a look at the Rangers for a moment. It’s Game 1 on the road. The other team gives you two goals and is playing three rookies on defense, one of whom is a 5-foot-9 kid who doesn’t kill penalties at the AHL level and who now is getting time on the penalty kill in his fourth career NHL game.

He’s the fourth-most experienced playoff defenseman the Bruins have right now, and he’s played 31 minutes and 31 seconds in the playoffs. He was supposed to be traded for Jarome Iginla -- and he knows it. Above all else, he’s actually a really important piece for the Bruins now. Watch out, folks, here comes Matt Bartkowski.

As the Maple Leafs held a 4-1 lead Monday night, you couldn’t help but feel good for them. That series against the Bruins was their Stanley Cup, and they were about to win it. They probably wouldn’t go far, but they put everything they had into it.

Milan Lucic saw the B’s roster flash before his eyes.

TORONTO – Tuukka Rask deserves better than to be the guy who was in net for a pair of postseason collapses.

TORONTO -- It isn’t about eliminating the Leafs any more than it is staying alive now for the Bruins, as Toronto handed them a 2-1 loss in Game 6 Sunday to force a winner-take-all Game 7.  The Bruins, who had a 3-1 series lead, could not get to James Reimer for the second straight game, as the Toronto goalie allowed just one goal for the second straight game, with the one Boston goal not coming until the final 30 seconds of the game on a Milan Lucic tally.

Decisions, decisions.  With the Bruins preparing for a Game 6 at Air Canada Centre that didn’t need to be held, we can look at what happened Friday – the flat start, the relentless Maple Leafs, the who-are-you-and-what-have-you-done-with-James-Reimer at the other end of the ice – a couple different ways.

TORONTO – The Bruins haven’t dominated the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, yet they find themselves in a dominant position with a 3-1 series lead over the Leafs and the opportunity to close out the series at home on Friday.

TORONTO -- Can the Bruins take a 3-1 series lead against the Maple Leafs on Wednesday? In order to do it, they'll need to do something they haven't done in 12 games: win two in a row.
DJ Bean
05/06/2013 - 11:45pm
TORONTO -- A year ago, people were wondering what happened to Milan Lucic. A month ago, people were wondering if the struggling forward just wasn't the player he'd once been. It's early -- very early -- but the playoffs just might be where Lucic reintroduces himself to the hockey world.
DJ Bean
05/04/2013 - 11:17pm
Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series between the B’s and Maple Leafs was lopsided because the Bruins were playing some of the better hockey they’d played in a long time and the Leafs were thoroughly terrible.

So everyone knew that “can’t just flip a switch” thing was a load of crap, right?
DJ Bean
04/30/2013 - 12:58am
The Bruins underachieved in the regular season and limped into the playoffs, so what’s their punishment? Perhaps the most ideal first-round matchup they could have asked for.
DJ Bean
04/28/2013 - 1:39am
Give the Bruins this: they're consistent.
DJ Bean
04/23/2013 - 11:40am
The postseason hasn't been Milan Lucic's time to shine the last few years, yet the playoffs couldn't come soon enough for the struggling power forward.

The fast-paced, hectic, bonkers, whatever-you-want-to-call-it 48-game schedule is nearly over as the NHL enters the final week of the regular season.
DJ Bean
04/20/2013 - 5:13pm
The regular season will end a week from Sunday, and right now the Bruins don’t look like they have a long postseason run ahead of them.

As the Bruins took the ice in darkness prior to the opening faceoff Wednesday night, the Garden felt like an oversized high school rink. As big a city as Boston is, the atmosphere was the perfect picture of a close community. It didn’t feel like the big, way-too-loud production that an NHL game usually is.

WILMINGTON -- Andrew Ference had gone home after Monday’s morning skate knowing that he was going to be a healthy scratch that night against the Senators.
DJ Bean
04/12/2013 - 12:14am
Every team wants to hit its stride as the playoffs near. Being the best team in April goes a lot further than being the best team in January, so the final couple of weeks of the regular season count for a lot more than picking up points and determining playoff seeding.
DJ Bean
04/11/2013 - 2:00am
It appears the rocky road the Bruins have traveled the last month and a half has gotten even worse.
DJ Bean
04/09/2013 - 6:38pm
Close your windows folks, because a big gust of Swedish intrigue appears headed for Boston in the form of forward Carl Soderberg.
DJ Bean
04/08/2013 - 11:46pm
Gregory Campbell was a top-six forward and it worked. It worked against a terrible team that has now lost five games in a row, but it worked. Let’s all acknowledge it.
