Here’s a second guess at what the Patriots’ 53-man roster will look like when they take the field three weeks from Monday for their regular-season opener against the Dolphins. There are a few changes from our first roster rundown, including at running back, tight end and on the defensive line.

FOXBORO — Kyle Love’s game prep isn’t complete until he gets a text from his father. The son of a former Army officer, the words of wisdom are the jolt that the defensive tackle needs to get his head into the game. “Something to get me excited, some kind of words of encouragement,” Love said when asked what his Dad tells him.

FOXBORO — The second NFL preseason game is usually the toughest one to call. There isn’t the getting-to-know-you process that comes with the  opener, and it still doesn’t have the intensity of the third preseason game.

Four weeks from Monday, the 2011 Patriots will meet the Dolphins in Miami in the regular-season opener. With the understanding that things could change dramatically between now and then, after two-plus weeks of training camp and a preseason game against Jacksonville, here’s our best guess as to what the 53-man roster is going to look like against the Dolphins:

FOXBORO — The Patriots ended the 2010 season with just eight healthy defensive linemen. Now, they have almost three times that many in training camp.

FOXBORO — Like a protagonist in a Clint Eastwood Western, Logan Mankins has never been much for small talk. Case in point: When he was asked Thursday why he signed his one-year, $10.1 million franchise tender so quickly, Mankins responded with a small smirk.

With training camp set to open for real on Thursday morning, the Patriots face the same amount of questions as any one of the other 31 teams in the league. We asked you for your top concerns, and in a modified mailbag, here are some of the readers’ most important questions — solicited via Twitter — facing the 2011 Patriots as the season gets underway:

FOXBORO — It was back to the business of football Tuesday morning at Gillette Stadium, as the Patriots returned to work for the first time since the NFL lockout ended.

When the business of football resumes — presumably, sometime this coming week — it will kick start a series of events the likes of which the NFL has never seen. Teams will have to hit the ground running, getting used to the new rules and regulations while scrambling to find free agents and getting their own rookies signed in a handful of days.

The NFL remains in limbo. On Thursday afternoon, the owners signed off on a new collective bargaining agreement, but late Thursday night, the players wouldn’t agree to the proposal, ultimately extending the longest work stoppage in the history of the league by at least one more day.
