About Christopher Price

Christopher Price has covered the Boston sports scene for more then a dozen years, working for ESPN.com, SI.com and Baseball America as well as The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The Miami Herald and Boston Metro. In that time, he’s established himself as an award-winning sportswriter who has been honored by Northeastern University, the New England Press Association and the North Carolina Press Association. In addition, he’s the author of the just published, “New England Patriots: The Complete Illustrated History” and two other books “Baseball by the Beach” and "The Blueprint: How the New England Patriots Beat the System to Create the Last Great NFL Superpower.”

Watching the performance of undrafted free agent running back Brandon Bolden on Sunday against the Bills, it got us thinking about undrafted players and their place in Patriots history. The stories of undrafted gems like Bolden are often studies in perseverance -- these are not first-rounders who start their professional lives with plenty of security.

The 2011 Patriots were one of the better teams in the league when it came to finishing off drives -- they were fourth in the league when it came to red-zone touchdowns, clicking at a rate of 65.1 percent. But through three games in 2012, the red-zone numbers for the New England offense have dropped to 6-for-12, or 50 percent.
