Kris Humphries scored the first Celtics basket of the preseason, and that thought seemed almost inconceivable, even repulsive, at this time last year.

Predictions for the 2013-14 NBA season are rolling in, and the prognosis for the Celtics isn’t good, but any forecast of this year’s team is simply an effort in futility.

Even Rajon Rondo admits he’s no coach’s dream, but all this business that began with some variation of, “He drove Doc Rivers out of town,” is getting out of hand.

If Paul Pierce is “cold-blooded,” then Danny Ainge is the iceberg that sunk the Titanic.

The man who brought Ubuntu to Boston just drove a stake through its heart. In a way, Doc Rivers still epitomizes the philosophy -- "I am what I am because of who we all are" -- since the Celtics shaped him into a coach worthy of an unprotected Clippers first-round draft pick just as much as he molded them on the way to their most recent NBA title.

06/19/2013 - 1:46pm
In the end, Danny Ainge holds all the cards, and the Clippers folded. After all, that other Los Angeles team is the side in desperate need of the coach with a championship pedigree and the big man who makes anything possible if the Clips ever hope to hoist their first Larry O’Brien trophy.

WALTHAM -- When Celtics coach Doc Rivers watched Warriors guard Stephen Curry’s 54-point performance, including all 11 triples against the Knicks on Wednesday night, he rooted for every shot to fall.

With 25 games remaining, the Celtics are closer to the No. 2 seed than the ninth seed. After their overwhelming underachievement in the first half of the season, the C’s undermanned overachievement for the past 14 games has all but clinched a playoff spot.

"There aren't a lot of teams that are trying to pursue players of KG and Paul's age, and I just think we value them more than other teams value them." -- Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, on Feb. 7

In the days since Rajon Rondo's season-ending ACL injury, Celtics coach Doc Rivers hasn't locked his staff in a room, hoping to recreate the wheel, and he hasn't called players into his office, complicating anyone's role.

After his postgame press conference, upon first learning of Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo’s season-ending ACL injury, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra pulled a reporter aside to ask, “Really?”

The Celtics got their swagger back. They discovered their identity. However you want to describe it, this is what Danny Ainge had in mind when he built what everybody back in training camp, including coach Doc Rivers, called "the deepest team" of this Celtics era.
