In memory of Danny Ainge’s pursuit of Kevin Love, let’s have a moment of silence. The only question now is just how long this mourning period will last in Boston.

The fireworks Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck promised are nowhere to be seen and no showy display appears on the horizon, so Danny Ainge has come under some fire.

It’s almost as if the Celtics had their 2014-15 marketing campaign in mind upon selecting players named Smart and Young with their two first-round picks.

Before the season started, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge offered this caveat: "I guess just realistic expectations is what I preach to the fans." And, realistically, the C's weren't all that good. In fact, by most statistical measures, they were terrible.

When even the coach is admitting some Celtics may be mailing in the remaining five games, it’s hard to ask a serious question without receiving quips like, “Is it possible for them to go 0-6?” or “Can they sign Walter McCarty to a 10-day contract?”

Rajon Rondo has done everything right. In the 29,233,380 seconds he’s spent rehabbing from his Feb. 14 ACL surgery, he’s attended just about every game, remaining vocal in practice and quiet in public.

Just before the season, Danny Ainge and the Celtics brass invited a dozen or so reporters to the team’s practice facility for the purpose of educating the media about the complicated NBA salary cap and its ramifications on roster moves.

As his Celtics prepare for a back-to-back against Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers for the first time since he shipped them to Brooklyn and Los Angeles this summer, not even Danny Ainge could have imagined he’d be resting this comfortably on his perch atop the organization.

When he turned down a three-year, $29 million offer from the Celtics in favor of a two-year, $20 million deal with the Pacers in December 2011, David West took a long look at Boston's roster and saw this coming.

11/19/2013 - 2:00pm
Perhaps you’ve forgotten exactly what Rajon Rondo is capable of. Any time the current game’s two greatest players openly drool over your point guard, it’s probably not the best idea to trade him away.

Kris Humphries scored the first Celtics basket of the preseason, and that thought seemed almost inconceivable, even repulsive, at this time last year.

08/21/2013 - 1:33pm
Predictions for the 2013-14 NBA season are rolling in, and the prognosis for the Celtics isn’t good, but any forecast of this year’s team is simply an effort in futility.
