— The anonymous tipster who reached out to Aaron Hernandez‘s lawyers and claimed a member of the jury hid information is a woman who wrote sexually explicit letters to the imprisoned former Patriot, the prosecution said in a filing released Monday.

Prosecutor William McCauley called the bid by Hernandez’s lawyer to pursue the woman’s tip an “unwarranted fishing expedition.”

According to Hernandez’s defense team, the woman called multiple times after Hernandez was convicted of first degree murder in April and claimed that one of the jurors was a co-worker who hid the fact that they had information about Hernandez’s 2012 double-murder case.

The prosecution says the woman, whose father served time in jail with Hernandez, does not in fact work with the juror — and made other comments that are not truthful. The prosecution admitted the woman has had extensive contact with Hernandez, but still suggests the information she has is worth pursing.

Hernandez is engaged to Shayanna Jenkins, with whom he has a young daughter. According to the Providence Journal, Jenkins was wearing a wedding band and an engagement ring Monday. Now living in Rhode Island, Jenkins has petitioned a probate court in that state to add the surname Hernandez to her name to match the surname of her daughter, Avielle Jenkins-Hernandez.

Hernandez, who was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, is awaiting trial in the double-murder case, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

— The father of the 9-year-old bat boy from Kansas who died Sunday after being hit in the head by a bat a day earlier spoke Monday of Kaiser Carlile’s happiness being a part of the team and expressed no hard feelings for the accident.

“There is no kind of remorse or anger towards what happened,” Chad Carlile said at a press conference with the team. “This is something that obviously was a tragedy. I want … no bad comments. Nothing bad. I mean, this is all for the good. If anyone can gain anything out of this it’s the fact that he was happy. He loved it, and the team we are obviously for loved him as well.”

Kaiser, who was working for the Liberal Bee Jays at the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kansas, was retrieving a bat after an out when the batter in the on-deck circle swung and hit the boy in the back of the head on his follow-through.

With the parents’ support, the team has continued to play in the tournament, which suspended the use of bat boys and girls.

Bee Jays manager Adam Anderson said Kaiser’s death hit his team hard, but the support the players and coaches have received from around the world has helped them persevere.

“My biggest message to them is nobody is going through this alone,” Anderson said. “We’re here to support each other and support Kaiser’s family. This is not one person’s burden to bear. We’ll have to bear it together.”

— UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will play herself in the film adaption of her autobiography, “My Fight/Your Fight,” Paramount Pictures announced Monday.

Rousey has appeared in a few movies already, including “Furious 7″ and “Entourage.”

Rousey is 12-0 after Saturday’s 34-second victory over Brazilian Bethe Correia in Rio de Janeiro. She is expected to make her seventh title defense later this year against Miesha Tate.

Disclaimer: I’m not Jerry Thornton. He’s the entertainer’s entertainer, a global icon with comedy chops, a radio show and a full head of hair. I have none of these things. I merely have the unenviable task of keeping the award-winning Thornography blog afloat while Jerry is on vacation, undoubtedly enjoying a romantic getaway with Johnny Weir.

Some years back, there was a Southwest Airlines commercial advertising flights to Philadelphia during which a man claimed the City of Brotherly Love has “a lot — A LOT — of culture” and other folks described the best their hometown has to offer, a list that consisted of pretzels, cheesesteaks and the phrase, “It’s like a baby New York.”

A lot of culture, indeed. Even the city’s own denizens couldn’t come up with anything better than empty calories and a degrading comparison to another equally deplorable metropolis to best describe Philadelphia.

In GQ’s quest to find “The Worst Sports Fans in America,” Eagles and Phillies fans tied for No. 1. This is, after all, a fan base that once booed Santa Claus. So, it should come as no surprise that Philadelphians killed hitchBot, a beloved hitchhiking robot whose sole goal was to travel across this great country and restore our faith in humanity.

Meanwhile, our faith in Philadelphia remains steadfast: Philly has no faith, and it will destroy your hopes and dreams, because Boston has repeatedly torn its heart out, set it afire and fed its body to the depths of hell.

Whether it was Havlicek stealing the ball, Super Bowl XXXIX or a sweep on the way to a Stanley Cup, Boston owns Philadelphia. Even Philly’s nicknames — Cradle of Liberty and Birthplace of America — are owed to Bostonians. As impartial observer Kevin Garnett said when asked to compare Philadelphia and Boston crowds, “Not even close. Not even close. You got fans, and then you got fair-weather fans. Take it how you want.”

And hitchBOT’s life was a sad reminder of the chasm between Boston and Philadelphia. After successful tours across Canada, Germany and The Netherlands, the robot began its U.S. journey in Massachusetts, spending almost two weeks fishing off the shores of Gloucester, touring Boston and crossing off the first of its many bucket list items.

Upon leaving Boston, the city that “invented America,” hitchBOT stopped in Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York before, we assume, being kidnapped, thrown in the trunk of a 1989 Eagle Premier and transported two hours southwest, enduring the stench of MetLife Stadium prior to being left for dead on the streets of Philadelphia.

It is a sad day for America, but at least we can take solace in the fact that humanity is alive and well in Boston, where hitchBOT experienced a fortnight of the best our country has to offer. RIP hitchBOT.

The night has fallen, I’m lyin’ awake,
I can feel myself fading away,
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss,
Or will we leave each other alone like this
On the Streets of Philadelphia
