With the regular season winding down, NFL head coaching rumors start to swirl and naturally, the name which always seems to get mentioned first is Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

The 41-year-old has interviewed with some teams in recent years, but has ended up staying with the Patriots. With some marquee jobs potentially opening up this offseason, McDaniels' name has already come up.

Speaking Monday morning on Kirk & Callahan, Tom Brady said it is just a matter of time before McDaniels gets another head coaching gig and he should be sought after because he's the best coordinator in the league.

"Josh has had some opportunities and anytime you are a great coach like him you are going to get them," Brady said. "It’s just a matter of time for Josh to get that opportunity and he certainly deserves it. No one works harder than him, or is more prepared. Josh is a phenomenal coach. I am lucky to be with him for all these years and I always hope we’re together.

"But, there’s also great opportunities for him at some point down the road. All that stuff happens later in the year. It’s part of the whole NFL changing regimes and so forth and coaching changes. Josh should be sought after because I think he’s the best coordinator in football.”

As for the sideline spat between the two during Sunday's game, Brady said he apologized to McDaniels and it is just part of the game.

“Just one of those things," Brady said. "It’s football, so there’s a lot of emotions and sometimes they boil over. I apologized and we moved on.”

Brady added: “Josh is like a brother, so we spend a lot of time together. We’re both competitive and emotional and you want things to go right all the time. It’s part of the sport."
