The Patriots will not be playing on wild card weekend and they can thank Jimmy Garoppolo for that.

Garoppolo and the 49ers upset the Jaguars 44-33 on Sunday, which means with the Patriots' win over the Bills, they have now secured finishing no worse than the No. 2 seed, and thus earning a first-round bye.

The former Patriots quarterback finished the game 21-for-30 with 242 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also added a rushing touchdown. He's a perfect 4-0 with the 49ers this year.

New England can clinch the No. 1 and homefield advantage if Pittsburgh loses to Houston on Monday, or by beating the Jets in Week 17. It’s the Patriots' eighth straight playoff bye, extending their own NFL record.
