It appears the Patriots will once again be short-handed in the backfield on Saturday night.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, running backs Mike Gillislee and Rex Burkhead are not expected to play against the Titans.

Burkhead has practiced the last two weeks, but hasn't played in a game since injuring his knee against the Steelers in Week 15. Gillislee injured his ankle against the Bills in Week 16 and Thursday was the first time he's practiced since.

The good news is after missing the last two games of the year with an ankle injury, James White is expected to return to action.

New England will likely have Dion Lewis, White and Brandon Bolden as active running backs.

Lewis has carried the load of late, as in the final two games of the year he had 50 carries for 222 yards and two touchdowns.
