FOXBORO -- Three players were missing from Patriots practice on Wednesday: Dont'a Hightower, Danny Amendola and Vincent Valentine.

Hightower left Thursday's game against the Chiefs in the second half with a knee injury, while Amendola also left in the second half with a head injury. Valentine didn't practice all last week and missed the game with a knee injury.

The session was held in full pads on the lower grass field behind Gillette Stadium.

While it's early in the week, the game was last Thursday, so it does raise some questions about these three players' availibility against the Saints on Sunday.

Matthew Slater, who missed Week 1 with a hamstring injury, departed for the upper fields following stretching.

There was a new defensive player, No. 27, who will likely be on the practice squad. The team had an open spot.

New England will practice Thursday and Friday before departing for New Orleans.
