49ers GM John Lynch: Jimmy Garoppolo likely our franchise QB, but we don't want to rush him

A few weeks ago, the thought was Jimmy Garoppolo would make his 49ers debut after their bye this Sunday against the Seahawks, but after hearing GM John Lynch's comments Tuesday, maybe that won't be the case after all.

“With all our players, we want to set them up for success,” Lynch said, via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “Probably none more so than a guy we think has the opportunity to be our franchise guy.”

The 49ers don't appear in any rush to start Garoppolo because of the way C..J. Beathard played against the Giants in their last game. He threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Garoppolo is also still learning the new system.

“C.J. playing the way he played last week, it gives us an opportunity to kind of continue to really — we’re trying to accelerate [Garoppolo’s growth], but we don’t want to rush it,” Lynch said.

Added Lynch on Garoppolo: “He does some things that are pretty special -- that it doesn’t take a quarterback savant to see. He can spin a football in a big-time way.”

After Seattle, the 49ers travel to Chicago on Dec. 3.
