The Red Sox made a bunch of moves Thursday. None of them were any big surprise.

Most notably, the team exercised the options of both Chris Sale and Craig Kimbrel for the 2018 season. Sale will now get paid $12.5 million during the upcoming season, with Kimbrel in line to get $13 million.

While it represents the last year the Red Sox will have Kimbrel under control, Sale has one more team option his deal, which will be worth $15 million after the starter's inevitable Top 3 finish in the American League Cy Young voting.

The Red Sox are saying farewell to reliever Robbie Ross Jr. and Josh Rutledge, who were both taken off the 60-man disabled list and outrighted. The pair elected free agency. Marco Hernandez, Tyler Thornburg and Steven Wright were reinstated from the 60-man and put on the 40-man roster.

Bryce Brentz and Williams Jerez were also assigned to the 40-man roster, currently giving the Red Sox 37 players on that list.
