-- Brooks Koepka won the 2017 U.S. Open on Sunday for his first career major championship.

In the final round of the tournament at Erin Hills in Wisconsin, Koepka shot a 5-under 67 and ended up 16-under par, tying Rory McIlroy’s U.S. Open record.

Hideki Matsuyama and Brian Harmon tied for second place at 12-under par.

“I don't know what to say right now, but it's pretty cool,” Koepka said at the trophy presentation. “It was a real team effort. It's awesome. To get calls, text messages last night was special. Everyone giving me a piece of advice, stick to what I've done, that's what I did today. I felt so confident out there, it was great.”

The Father’s Day win was also special for Koepka’s dad, Bob.

"I just hope every father out there gets to experience something like this," Bob Koepka said. "I don't even know what to say. This is the best feeling in the world."

Before this win, Koepka had only one win on the PGA Tour.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I really do. I think the big thing is taking care of yourself, and he does that as well as anybody. We all know about his diet. We know about how he trains in the offseason. The way he takes care of his arm. And if you can stay away from any major injuries. That's the key for guys as they get older." -- Warren Moon, to WEEI, on his belief that Tom Brady will play into his mid-40s
