Mike Francesa has been set on retiring from WFAN in December for a while, but he said on Tuesday he is leaving the door open to possibly remaining with the station following morning show host Craig Carton’s arrest.

“I will not turn my back on the station,” Francesa said. “Let’s see what the fall brings. I haven’t talked to anybody, but I know there are conversations ahead.”

Carton was suspended indefinitely from WFAN last week after he was arrested for running a Ponzi scheme. Following this news, many speculated Francesa would stay on past December so the station would not have to look for two hosts at the same time.

“I understand the question; it is fair,” Francesa said. “Right now there is nothing to report. The plan remains in place.”

For now, Carton’s “Boomer & Carton” co-host, Boomer Esiason, will work with a rotating cast including Jerry Recco, Phil Simms and Brandon Tierney.
