Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers accrued four tackles and half a sack in New England's 33-8 victory over Oakland on Sunday. The standout defender joined Ordway, Merloni & Fauria on Monday to discuss the victory. For full audio of the interview, visit OMF's audio on demand page.

The Patriots defense performed well once again as it continued its midseason turnaround. Flowers said it is an expectation to improve weekly.

“Guys are just buying into their role and are starting to make plays and learn the scheme of the defense and be comfortable out there,” Flowers said. “So they’re able to play fast and make plays out there. Like I said early in the season we had a lot of playmakers but we just had to get it together. We’ve got a lot of work to do but we’re heading in the right direction.”

Marshawn Lynch headlined the Oakland offense as the veteran running back rushed for 67 yards on 11 carries.

“He’s a great back, he continues to move his feet and runs hard,” Flowers said. “They obviously have a good offensive line. They’re big and do what they do well and get in front of you and allow their running backs to run."

The defense has been playing physical, with many players combining for tackles week in and week out. Flowers credits the ramped up defensive intensity in practice.

“We go out there and have drills that kind of allow us to warm up and start off with tackling," Flowers said. "We do that at the start of every practice… All that inclusiveness in drills and just the confidence that we got people running to the ball is the increase in tackling."
